I am looking at thai life+health insurance policies with wide private hospital coverage and would like to hear comments on:
Is it commonly expected to pay the first full year premium up front? (I have always used employer offered plans before and they always started with monthy premiums.)
How common is it in plans for the insurer to have the discrepancy whether to require me to pay for an incident up front and then get reimbursement?
TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, it is common for insurers to require the full year's premium to be paid upfront, especially for expats. While some insurers allow for monthly or quarterly payments, such as AIA, many local companies typically expect annual payment. Regarding incident payment procedures, nearly all insurers require upfront payment for outpatient services and will reimburse afterwards if covered by the policy. It is advisable to consult with a professional insurance broker to get tailored advice on insurance plans available for expats.
