In terms of hassle and possibly different requirements is it better to get a non immigrant O A retirement visa outside of Thailand or an O visa inside Thailand? I am American.

For the requirements of the Non Immigrant O visa inside Thailand, the best is to visit your local Immigration Office and ask the hand out. Than you visit this web page and see the differences yourself and you can choose which is in your case the most convenient:

I can't figure it out but my friends here said getting it in Thailand was better because of less paperwork and no insurance requirements for O when applying in Thailand. I don't know what to do.
