Is a yearly salary sufficient to bypass the 500,000 THB requirement for a guardianship visa in Thailand?

I have a question regarding the guardianship visa and I’m hoping I might finally get a solid answer to this question.

I am aware of the stipulation of needing to have 500,000THB in a Thai bank account for around 90 days in order to be eligible.

BUT! I have also heard on a number of occasions from other expats, that if you (or your household) earns a certain amount of money a year, then it would negate the need for the 500,000THB to be on hold in an account.

Is this true? If so, would anyone happen to know what salary per year is needed?

Thank you in advanced 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question seeks clarification on whether a yearly income can replace the requirement of having 500,000 THB in a Thai bank account for a guardianship visa. Responses indicate that only the bank balance is accepted for the visa application, while an annual salary might be considered for an Extension of Stay at an immigration office. Some participants mention confusion about the amounts required, suggesting that it's typically 400,000 THB instead of 500,000 THB, and highlight the need for direct consultation with the embassy or immigration officials for accurate information.

Hi I have a question, I looked up for guardianship visa, however I couldn’t find bank statement is needed on Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul for visa application documents. When would we need Bank statement? Could you share your experience?

there is often times a BIG difference between getting a VISA at a thai consulate and applying for an extension of stay inside the country at the immigration office.

I would follow the information written on the website of the thai consulate you're going to use to get the Non-O visa frin.

There is no option for a parent to use income when getting an extension of stay for raising foreign children here. It is 100% banked money and it is 500K.

@Mere****
, yep, that 40K baht a month in income or 400K baht banked option is only available for being the parent of half thai kids here. :/

Ok that is what I have been finding.

That also explains how some folks have been able to go with the annual income as well.

Thank you

Apologies if wrong

Thanks

for clarification.

, you are confusing the requirements for raising half thai children to the ones for raising 100% foreign ones.

That extension requires 400K banked for half thai kids, and 500K banked for 100% foreign ones

Yeah maybe it’s 400k

Take a look at the website of the Consulate of Embassy where you want to apply for this Visa.

This seems to talk about the applicant being a relative of a Thai. My children and I are American with no relationship ties to a Thai (bad pun?)

I’m going to keep reading on through the website though. Thank you so much for the link!

Ah ok. So I should go chat with immigration. 👍

Thanks. Glad to hear this might be a thing 😊

The yearly salary can be used when you apply for an Extension of Stay at Immigration, not for application a Visa at a consulate or Embassy.

So far I haven’t seen anything about the yearly salary....only the 400k...this seems to be an undocumented loophole that may or may not exist
