If you change from a marriage visa, to a guardian visa.

The money is more 500000. But as you would be changing visa and there are different times that you have to have the funds in the account.

How long would you have to have the 500,000bht in your account if you changed visas?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
When changing from a marriage visa to a guardian visa in Thailand, the funds requirement is 500,000 THB. For the first extension, this amount must be in your account for at least 1 month, while for subsequent extensions, it needs to be in the account for at least 3 months. It's important to note that a guardian visa can only be issued for non-Thai children enrolled in an approved school and that switching to a Non-O Guardian visa may require processing from outside Thailand.

My daughter is English. Not half thai.

I want to change away from marriage visa as I travel in and out of Thailand. And its less time restrictive to be on a guardian visa.

a multiple reentry permit with your one year extension based on Marriage to Thai will allow you to leave and return as you wish all year long.

thanks James. It was more due to last year. We got the visa issued. But had to return to immigration on an exact day, with no flexibility on their side.

Fortunately I was still in Thailand. But more down to luck than anything.

same thing with the visa based on raising a foreign child here, you're going to get a 30 day under consideration stamp and you show up on that date to get the year extension inked in.

There's no upside to switching if all you're trying to do is get away from the 30 day under consideration stamp 🙁

ah OK thanks. I have had a guardian before. And don't remember the 30 day consideration. Ah well, I will have to plan a bit then and see if I can be around for this date. Not always easy with covid restrictions in certain countries.

Thanks for the reply. Cheers

@Andrew ******
also realize the funds seasoning for "raising a foreign child" visa/extension is 500K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 30 days for the first yearly extension and for 3 months every yearly extension after that..

Ok magic thanks.

There maybe one advantage to change then.

Appreciate the replies. Will have to start the money juggling act.

Guardian visa is for non Thai children studying at an international school or other approved school.

Only one guardian visa can be issued per child.

Requirement for funds is 500k. 1st time for extension need to be in account for 1 month. Further extensions needs to be 3 months.

Phuket (and quite possibly other offices) will not let you switch to a Non O Guardian visa in country under any means.

Get one from an outside consulate and they’ll extend it as long as the child is at school.

Are you now married to a Thai?

Is the child a Thai?

Is this question about you or another member of the family ?

What visa and or extension is the person now on in Thailand ?

Is your question related to this past post of yours ?

"Can a grandparent of a child studying in Thailand be the guardian on a guardian visa.

Parent doesn't need it.

Obviously having the funds in place etc.

Thanks"

What do you mean by "guardian visa"?

If you are saying an extension based on raising a half Thai child, the funds requirement as a bank deposit is 400K, with no seasoning period. Other requirements are similar to an extension based on being married to a Thai national.

If you mean an extension based on supporting a foreign child, the funds requirement is 500K as banked money, for three months to have in the bank. But your child has to have a primary visa/extension.

@Ellie ******
no seasoning? Not even 2 months?

@John ********
, IF the reason for 1-year extension is "raising a half Thai child", at least there is no time requirement that you have to have a specific amount for a specific period in your Thai bank account before the application in the police order.

Other reasons for 1-year extension have their own financial requirements.

@Ellie ******
that’s interesting. Sorry, not trying to labour the point, but is that for male and female foreign parents?
Ellie *******
@John ********
male or female doesn't matter as a foreign parent of a half Thai child.

@Ellie ******
