TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a common confusion among travelers regarding the validity of Thai tourist visas, specifically that while the visa may be valid for 90 days for entry, it typically only allows for a 60-day stay upon arrival in Thailand. The conversation clarifies that the visa must be used within the 90-day period and offers additional insights on extending the stay.

Patenaude Anthony might be a good idea to check what they stamp when they stamp - they make mistakes. The visa tells you the number of days you can stay in Thailand - it tells you the latest you can enter Thailand (must be used before..) etc.

The visa isn’t for a 90 day stay but the visa has to be used to enter Thailand in the 90 day period.

You will get 60 days on arrival which you extend by 30 days.

Just like me when first arriving on 1 yr non o, what could go wrong, stamp at airport allowing me in 90 days. Wait till you have arrived and got through immigration then look at stamp.

Graeme if it's a 1 year multi entry non-O that gets you stamped 90 days at a time. You need to leave and come back at the end of the 90 days.

Non O-A is the one that gets stamped for 1 year.

What’s the best option if you want to stay after the 90? Border run?

better to get a METV or longer term visa to start. You might get away with one border run particularly if you have no history but they are cracking down on this. You could go somewhere else for a while and come back later but there is a limit now on use of tourist entries. It's not strictly defined as to what that is but there is a limit.

Ivan McAvinchey sweet just did a quick study on the METV and you can leave and come back the same day. That’s convenient.

It's a common mistake. The visa will get you in and you will be stamped in for 60 days. The visa must be used to enter Thailand within that 90 days.

There are some very small-minded, keyboard warriors here who think they are so superior just because they have this tiny morsel of knowledge.

Means you have 90 days to ENTER Thailand.

When you arrive, they'll stamp you in for 60 days.
