Hi, I am about enter Bangkok (DMK) to start my new life as a digital nomad. Super excited.

I got approved the DTV visa a few weeks ago so this will be my first time entering.

I will print out (and maybe even laminate) the DTV, Do I also need to take 20,000thb in cash or is having the funds in my bank account in AUD okay? Also do I need to book an outward flight out of Thailand. I don’t know my travel plans in 180 days so would rather not book this now if I don’t have to but obviously don’t want to be denied entry or have any problems at immigration.
Answer summary
The user is preparing to enter Thailand with a DTV visa and is seeking advice on necessary preparations. Key points from community responses suggest that having the DTV visa printed (or laminated) and filling out the TDAC online prior to arrival is crucial. While carrying 20,000 THB in cash is often recommended, many say it's rare for immigration to ask for it, and proof of funds in a bank account is usually acceptable. Regarding the onward travel ticket, it appears that while it may not be explicitly required at the airport, airlines typically require it. If necessary, purchasing a cheap refundable ticket could ease concerns. Overall, showing the DTV and passport is considered sufficient for most travelers.

Most of the time, the io won't ask for any of the above but do note it is a requirement. So if they do ask for it and you don't have it, that could be a bummer.

The 20k cash refers to cash only and the value of which is at or above 20k thb. This can be in any currency but not crypto.

The outward ticket is also a requirement which would more likely be asked by your boarding airline. You could show them your visa and that might suffice. However in rare cases, there are reports (dunno how true) of Thai ios asking for outward ticket. If that happens, you could simply buy a cheap one way ticket from anywhere in Thailand (not necessarily from bkk) to a nearby city overseas. It doesn't mean you'll have to use that ticket. Consider it as bad debt 😂

Good luck

Hello dont worry. Just print your e visa. No need money in cash. Print an actualised bank account the day before flight , TDAC. About return ticket, they dont ask. You can just but an exit ticket bus cheap and refundable on 12 go if you really dont want to bé stressed. Arrival is smooth, only evisa and stamp and welcome Thaïland. Do your TM30 in the first 24 hours.

Just fill out the TDAC thats it everything else is on the system. You don't nerd an onward ticket. You have a 5 year visa no more visa on arrival for you. Do forget you 90 day reporting

Your better off withdrawing the cash in AUD and showing AUD if asked and exchange it when you get to Thailand. All the exchanges from What I have seen in Aus are taking advantage of the Baht now that Thailand is enforcing the 20k rule.

If they ask for the 20k, it has to be in cash.

You don't need anything else, other than your passport and DTV QR code.

But some people report that first time entries get pulled aside and asked to show all the documents they applied with, including a live view of your bank account.

I came from Australia through USM on a DTV, and first entry they just asked for passport and visa, and stamped me through 😌 I’d recommend bringing Australian cash and exchanging it here as the ATM charges $11 per withdrawal, anyway… Enjoy 🇹🇭

thats if you get double charged from Thailand and Australia. Get a credit card that gives free international travel insurance and waves international fees. Or the banks will be making a lot

I literally just came through DMK last night. I did my TDAC online beforehand, showed my passport and DTV to immigration and was eating a Krispy Kreme donut within 30 min waiting to fly to Chiang Mai. 🤣🤣

Nothing to worry about, fill out your tdac before you fly and hand over your passport and laminated DTV to the officer. No need for onward flight and it would be extremely rare to be questioned about cash on hand. It would be your airline that's interested in onward ticket, simply show them you have a DTV.

Every time I've entered with my DTV I've only had to show them the DTV and the passport, and then of course you fill out the TDAC online before you enter the country. If you forget that last one you can still do it in the airport. I've never been asked to show 20,000 baht or proof of onward travel as long as I had a current visa.

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 there's nothing wrong with having it in your passport either as again, I've had no problems entering or leaving for over a year. You can do what you like and I'll do the same.
