When it’s time to do my first DTV border run, do you think 2-3 days is enough? I’m on workation and never had issues 🙏 I’ve just heard some people say they want you out for some time and I’ve got pets, it’s not in my interest. Thank you in advance.
Answer summary
The timing for a DTV border run in Thailand can vary greatly depending on personal experiences and the discretion of the immigration officer (IO) you encounter. While some expats argue that you can return on the same day or even within hours, others recommend staying out of the country for at least one night to ensure a smoother re-entry. Many have successfully done border runs with durations ranging from overnight stays to a few days without issues, but it is essential to remember that immigration practices can be inconsistent. For the safest option, particularly for first-time border runs, staying out for 2-3 days is suggested, especially if you have pets and want to avoid complications.

From what I have read as long as you leave and come back it makes no difference. I like to make a holiday of it and go for a week at least. I have heard others that do overnight or in and out within an hour. First time I did Australia & last time I did Japan for 10 days. I was going to do Dubai next but may do Malaysia or Singapore due to the Iran situation.
Border run is still possible, organized groups go from any Tourist city to the closest border, out-in same day. At airport they don't like same day out-in, or use a Safe Entry.
There’s no set rules and as with any entry you’re at the mercy of the IO. I’ve done 1 night so far, a friend of mine flew to KUL and flew back after 4 hours there (she did go out and back in through immigration there). No issues for either of us (HKT airport).
please stay out of the country for at least 1 night. to be safe we will be doing 2 from now on - we came back on the same day on our last border run - about 12 hours later. we were almost refused entry!! officer was absolutely disgraced at us (family with 2 daughters) we had to beg and apologize and after 25 minutes she finally stamped us in, but she said it's on our file now and when we do a border run it has to be at least staying away in another country for AT LEAST 1 night.
I don’t understand that, they even tell DTV people at immigrations to do border runs instead to reset the stamp, So what is the deal the visa is 5 years lol, where is the logic in them for that 1 day🤣 but I guess Thailand+Logic doesn’t add up at any time lol
KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 no you can't. we came back on the same day - about 12 hours later. we were almost refused entry!! officer was absolutely disgraced at us (family with 2 daughters) we had to beg and apologize and after 25 minutes she finally stamped us in, but she said it's on our file now and when we do a border run it has to be at least staying away in another country for AT LEAST 1 night.
was this a land border and if so which one? Some of them cook up their own requirements on people needing to stay out 1-2 nights although they aren't usually applied to DTV or other multiple entry visas.
just depends on crossing and immigration officer you get. Some do have special rules in place but the system is not unified and one may deny you while another crossing near by may say no problem at all.
Generally you should just share your experience and leave my comment alone…… no need to come out and say no you can’t. This is Thailand you can almost do anything you want especially if you can speak Thai , be polite dress well and have manors
KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 of course I know it's down to the IO. I am sharing my experience and what our family will be doing from now. our first border run we were out of the country for 7 days and had absolutely no issue.
