Hello, I have a DTV visa that I need to get stamped outside of Thailand.

So I'm going to Ranong in 3 days to do this, but I'm hearing two conflicting options.

One comes from a local who offers his services for 2,600 baht with the speedboat that departs from Ranong Pier, including the Myanmar visa fee.

The other version says there's no visa on arrival, and that I have to apply for an e-visa online, which takes a maximum of 3 days to receive by email.

Which version is correct, please?

Thank you for your answers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of stamping a DTV visa outside of Thailand, particularly concerning entry into Myanmar. The original poster is confused about two conflicting options: one local offers a service that includes a speedboat ride to Myanmar and covers the visa fee, while another suggests an e-visa is required instead. Comments clarify that no visa on arrival is needed for the DTV visa holder, as they just need to exit and re-enter for stamping purposes. A day pass for immediate re-entry may suffice, and it's recommended to confirm procedures with local immigration and consider other neighboring countries for easier processing.

At Ranong, you need to go to the Thai immigration office and they will inspect your documents. Once they agree you are fine to be let back in you agree the return fee with the boat guys 200 baht each way is fine - Myanmar is visa free for 14 days but travel is restricted once there. Once you get to Myanmar get off the boat and someone will take you to the immigration which is a few minutes walk away where you will need to pay 500 baht. Go back to the boat, wait for it fill and go back to Thailand.

Visa on Arrival is for people who come to Thailand who need a visa but donโ€™t have one already. You already have a visa. You donโ€™t need it. They should stamp you in for your DTV when you come back in

You just buy the "day pass" to get in to burma, it's not a visa on arrival, it's not a visa at all, just a pass that lets you in to burma (and that immediate area) so you can stamp in turn around stamp out AND come back to thailand

USE A SERVICE that takes people to ranong to bounce them out and back as they have it set up so you can do it without any issue

Ranong immigration will probably ask you for

Baht in order to be allowed to leave; although since it sounds like you're using a visa service, they might be willing to "overlook" this.

Yes but only that border does that. I wasn't bouncing either but spending several days in Myanmar. If you don't use an agent that's what happens at Saphan Pla pier. All visa types seem to be asked, but they weren't too insistent. They might have been had I not had a visa.

@Paul ******
why would they ask for 20K baht to be allowed to leave ? do you mean they would want to see proof of 20K baht to get back IN or what?

AND

when was the last time you "border bounced" using the Ranong / Kawthaung border with burma?

The other requirements such as a ticket out of the country and/or lodging are not as important as the

Baht in cash. I talked my way out of it (I did have almost 20K in cash to pay for my expenses in Myanmar, which is basically cash only) and I was surprised they would ask a marriage visa holder for this. Finally they stopped and again, it was asked for upon exit. Upon re-entry, no issues as I was already vetted.

@Paul ******
and you were coming in on a DTV? or you were comin' back on a visa exempt entry?

I've not heard proof of funds being a requirement to come in on a valid visa

On a marriage visa. They will ask on any visa (not extension of stay) unless you use a visa run service. Now I did use Saphan Pla best to use one of the other piers, which are the dedicated ones for the various tour companies as those are better.

I talked my way out of the requirements, but that's because I am an assertive, fluent Thai speaker.

@Paul ******
so you were bouncing out/back to get a new 90 day entry stamp on a valid year-long, multi-entry Non-O and they STILL asked for proof of funds?

That is totally crazy, ๐Ÿ™

It's a posted requirement for free stamp/tourist visa entries only

They ask because they need to ensure you can come back and they know you're trapped there. I was there last year. They ask when you leave. They even hassle you if you present a Myanmar visa and explain you're going to the islands for several days.

Laos is a good option. I went there to re-stamp DTV last week by train and it was smooth. If your nationality need visa, you can apply visa on arrival. VOA is around 20$ I guess.

is it from Bangkok? I would like to avoid Cambodia and Myanmar to re-stamp if this is an option

Anonymous participant 558 Yes from Bangkok.

I believe visa on arrival VOA is only available if you enter at certain ports of entry according to your French passport. You'll need to buy an evisa online before you enter. Surely you can google your entry options yourself.

Myanmar e-visa very easy, can get within one day by apply at

I called the immigration office in Ranong this morning, they confirmed what you said ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

It depends what you want to do. It is necessary to get out on the islands. Not necessary for a quick turnaround in Kawthaung, which is what 99% of farang do.

try another country, Myanmar is a hassle for country who doesnโ€™t fall under visa free category
