TLDR : Answer Summary
Once the DTV visa is approved, there appears to be a consensus that you should ideally enter Thailand within 60 days of approval. While the visa itself is valid for 5 years, it is advisable to use it sooner rather than later. Some commenters mentioned that entering within 3 months of issuance is recommended, and the visa grants you a 180-day stay upon entry. It’s important to confirm these details as they can vary.

You want to first enter the country within 60 days of approval. No longer. That’s what I’ve heard

There’s no “activation period” your visa is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and you can enter in 4 years and 11 months and you’ll still get a 180 day DTV stamp.

Anonieme deelnemer 101 It is not sure now that you will get 180 days when you enter on the last day of the 5 years. It is far away, and even with current rules not sure you get a date after visa or passport expiry date.

the answer is you need to use it within 5 years. It is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. So if you wait 4 years before you enter Thailand for the first time, then you only have 1 year left of validity.

You have FIVE YEARS. It's valid until the valid date on the visa.

that's true for other visas, not for the DTV.

although many visas are only valid for entry for 90 days from the date of issue, not so with the DTV being a 5-year multiple entry Visa.
