Hello, since i have to fly back to my home country for visa application, does anyone know for how long to plan the stay? Is 3 weeks enough or is the visa typically submitted faster?

Also the application is online. Do they ask for proof that im in Germany right now or can i just start the application somewhere else while im outside of Thailand?

And what about the fee? Is it the same as the Visa extension or 90 Day tourist visa where you get no refund if rejected?
Answer summary
When applying for a Thai visa while in Germany, you should plan to stay for at least 4 weeks, as processing times can vary by embassy and may be longer than expected. The application must be submitted in person at the embassy, which means you will need to be within the jurisdiction where you are applying. Although you can start the application online, payment and submission require your presence. The fee for the application is not refundable, regardless of the outcome, and currently stands at around 350 Euros.

The fee is for processing the visa, so whether it is issued or not, you still pay

I think the criminal record check will take the longest time...so start with that first. The new rules for applications require it now

I started my app. Only to realize that is the longest wait time.

I would give yourself plenty of time 4-8 weeks

You can start the application anytime but you can only submit it and pay once you're in the jurisdiction of the embassy you're using

The application is done online, you can fill everything out in the application but the last step is submitting and paying. You have to submit your application to an Embassy/Consulate in a country where you have citizenship or permanent residency (although some countries will accept those on select long stay visas as well). The eVisa rules state that you must be physically within the jurisdiction of that consular office in order to submit your application there so if you submit it from Thailand or somewhere outside of their jurisdiction it can be rejected.

I dont think that theyre able to see immigration records of other countrys first. Second: if you travel in europe there are no information because of non existent borders. And i surely believe that they dont get information from the hundreds of airlines.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 the question is how would they know though if youre in that jurisdiction? You dont get a stamp for leaving a country so they cant know by checking your passport.

It depends on the embassy and from

What I have seen on this page, Germany tends to be longer. They often do ask for proof. Probably more now that they changed the rules and they know people are not applying in Vietnam and Laos anymore. Yes, no refund. The fee is for the application review, not the actual visa

The timeline varies depending on the Embassy/Consulate processing the application. It’s generally advisable to expect it to take at least one month to process through.

I can’t speak as to if they will ask for proof that you are currently within Germany/their jurisdiction but it would be something that should be reasonably expected.

If the visa is denied or cancelled, there is no refund of the application fees and this is explicitly stated during the application process. You aren’t paying for the visa, you are paying to be considered for the visa irrespective of the outcome.
