TLDR : Answer Summary
When transitioning from a retirement visa to a marriage visa in Thailand, the seasoning requirement for funds is important. You need to have 400K baht in your account for at least 2 months before applying for the new extension. Additionally, if currently on a retirement extension, you must ensure that the 800K baht requirement was maintained for 3 months following the current extension approval. This approach guarantees that you meet the necessary financial criteria for both visa types.

Sorry to have deleted the previous responses.

This is why CORRECT terminology is so important.

if you've been here 5 years you don't have ANY visa (read your stamp, it should say extension of stay).

Ellie was correct stating you can't change a a VISA issued for one reason to another reason.

BUT

seeing as you're on a yearly extension you CAN change the reason for your extension from retirement to marriage the next time you go for a new extension.

AND

Ellie was also correct in stating you need to meet the seasoning of funds for the current extension based on retirement you're on now if you're using banked money <- meaning you need to keep the 800K baht in the account 3 months after your extension was granted and then the balance can't go below 400K baht the rest of the year. <- Which means you will have no problem with the seasoning for the marriage extension. Which is that the 400K baht funds need to be in the account for 2 months before you apply for your new extension. .. .

thanks for the reply.......just to confirm, you are saying a person doesn't need to be on an O visa to get a retirement extension, it can also be done on the OA.

Not saying you are wrong as I haven't tried but everything I have read and heard says you need to be on an O visa to get a retirement extension so would just like to confirm for sure ....?

Right, an extension based on being over 50 can be applied for when you had/started either Non-OA or Non-O retirement.

One difference for them is you need to meet the insurance requirement if you started Non-OA.

(And this is the reason some people want to "change" to Non-O based extension from Non-OA based extension with the reason of being over 50.)

>visa to get a retirement extension, it can also be done on the OA.

Correct! You will need to continue meeting the insurance requirements though.

you mentioned you can change the reason for your extension from retirement to marriage does that mean if you were here on retirement extensions of an OA visa you could change to marriage extension linked to that same OA visa?

As I was under the impression that you needed to have an O visa to get a marriage extension.

, you can change the reason for extension from the retirement starting from Non-OA entry to marriage to a Thai national inside Thailand.
