I have just signed up to apply for a 90 day Non Immigrant O visa with the intention to obtain a marriage visa eventually. I assume the O visa will allow me to open a bank account and get the B400000 deposit in. When this is done I assume I can apply for the Marriage visa. How long does this process normally take?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of transitioning from a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa to a Marriage visa typically involves applying for an extension of stay based on marriage within the last 30 days of your 90-day entry stamp. After depositing a minimum of 400,000 THB in a bank account for at least 2 months, you can apply for the extension, which is subject to certain requirements including a residence certificate and possibly a Thai SIM card. Once applied, you may wait around 4 weeks for immigration to conduct a home visit and finalize the extension.

The “90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa” is your visa. You will get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. The visa expires upon entry.
In Thailand you will apply on Immigration for a “1-year extension of the stay permit based on marriage”.
Having entered on a Non-Imm visa type will help to get a Thai bank account opened.
For the account opening, the minimum requirements are a “certificate of residence” from Immigration that is specially issued for the purpose to get a bank account opened.
Further, you will need a Thai SIM card registered on your name and your passport number.
You can apply for the “1-year extension of stay permit” up from the last 30 days of your 90-days stay permit.
On the day you apply, the deposit of a minimum of 400,000 THB must have been in sitting in your bank account for a minimum of 2 months, and this must be confirmed by the “bank letter of guarantee” (in Thai: rab roong thanakan)
The application fee is 1900 THB.
You initially will get issued the 1-year extension for 4 weeks “under consideration”. Within this period, Immigration is going to conduct a home visit. After this period, you can pick up the 1-year-extension stamp . . . . . . . I suggest you leave the 400,000 THB sitting in your account until you got issued the 1-year extension of stay stamp. After this, you can use the money for living expenses. However, two months before the date of the next annual extension of stay permit application, the 400,000 THB minimum need to be back in the account
Were you married in Thailand because, if not, there are a few steps you should do before travelling to enable you to get your foreign marriage registered in Thailand which you will need for your extension?
If married in the UK :
1. IN THE UK: Marriage certificate legalised by the FCDO in Milton Keynes
2. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO Translated
3. IN THE UK: Marriage Certificate AND the Apostille from the FCDO AND their translations verified by the Thai Embassy in London
4. IN THAILAND: All the above (i.e. all 4 documents & their translations, making 8 in total) Legalised by MFA in Bangkok
The Non-O is your marriage visa and you apply for a 12 month Extension of Stay (based on marriage) when you have seasoned your 400k for two calendar months and with no more than 45 or 30 days (depends on the Immigration OIffice you use) remaining on your entry stamp.
Graham Seal I can't see how this adds up to 8 documents.. to register an overseas marriage with the Amphur you need (1) the original marriage certificate duly certified by the country where the marriage took place, and (2) a translation of the original marriage certificate into Thai.. and these 2 documents are then submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand to have them 'rubber stamped' before you can present them to the Amphur.. there is no necessity to have the Thai Embassy in an overseas country verify them as well.. and if you are starting the process after already travelling to Thailand.. then you can get the original marriage certificate authenticated by the Embassy of said overseas country in Bangkok instead.. before submitting it and the necessary translation to the MoFA for stamping.. this assumes the relevant Embassy still offers this service since some Embassies do not!
I was married in Thailand so no issue with translation etc. However it would seem then that when I start the process of opening the bank account I then have to wait 2 months while residing in Thailand? If i understand correctly the O visa I get, prior to getting the marriage visa, is a single entry only? Thanks for all the comments
The 90 day Non-O is your visa, you will next apply for an extension of stay based on marriage. It will help you open a bank account but you might also need a residence certificate from immigration and a Thai SIM registered against your passport. You can apply for an extension of stay when you are down to the last 30 days of your entry stamp from the Non-O AND your 400k baht has been in bank account for 2 calendar months date to date
