Good day, I was wondering if anyone has had experience going to Laos to get a new 60 tourist visa, and how long it took to process. I will be leaving my current job, and my plan was to book a flight to Laos and apply for a 60 day tourist visa when I arrive there. Since I will have to book a two way flight, I was wondering if anyone had any advice about when I should schedule my return flight back to Thailand. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

OP
Graeme Drake sorry for the confusion. I am currently on a non b visa with a school and will be leaving to go to another job, so I need to do a border run to obtain a visa for the new job’s probation period.

Matthew Baird ok so reading up on it, granting the visa doesn't mean you can work, so you then after the Non B then need to get a work permit, only happen in Thsiland.

This has given me a new plan to consider! I was going to try and obtain a TV in Cambodia, where I'll be before Thailand. But I'm not sure the embassy there is still functional or if it's online or walk in. I'm going to Laos anyway after a few weeks in Thailand. So l could now do it there , come back hopefully with a 60 days SETV and stay until just before Songkran.

all thai consulates in the world are on the eVisa system,

the land border closure between Thailand and Cambodia haven't affected the Thai Embassy there.

Only the Thai consulates in Lao and Burma have you show up to pay in cash. They rest are all pay online

You’ll be leaving your current job, but you’re on a tourist visa?

sound like that they're on a Non-B visa/extension now will be leaving that employment <meaning they lose the extension, so they're going to a nearby thai consulate to get a tourist visa to come back to thailand

Happens all the time.. That's what people do

The BIG thing that makes peoples' processing times stretch out are

failure to upload PROOF you're actually in Lao <- meaning you upload your visa/entry stamp.

And not uploading 3 months of bank records like it says on the eVisa information page

Another thing that runs people off the rails is that they do the application too fast and not check the data they entered is 100% correct, especially where you scan the MRZ of your passport on the data page and it auto-fills <- you can edit that if it's wrong but it has to match 100% with what you key in

Data entry errors result in automatic cancellation, meaning you lose the application fee and have to apply again. Requests for more documentation only delay the processing time

GO SLOW, it's not a race, check the data, upload what they want, where they want it, print the QR and go pay then wait it out for the approval email

I'm heading up to Laos for the same reason. E-visa states it can take anywhere from 5-14 days for approval, although someone I know got theirs in 2 days last week so it's really hard to know! I plan to enjoy Laos though and make a trip out of it, it's a stunningly beautiful place!

I'm going to take the advice given here and go through the application process here to ensure I have everything before sending in the application while in Laos

Do as Tod says but start your application in the comfort of your "home" in Thailand and upload and double-check everything except the Proof of Location section. You can save an application at any point then return to it later to continue. When you get to Laos you can take a photo of your visa and entry stamp within minutes of arrival to complete and submit your application. Take all of your uploaded documents and more with you just in case they ask for something specific while you are there.

Graham Seal just keep inind that the incomplete application will only sit in the system for 2 weeks. I started mine from home a few days early and have to do it again before I fly to Laos lol

it comes down to how well you are at filling out the online application without mistakes (which results in a cancellation) with the correct documentation (so they don't have to email you for more documents) and when you apply (so you don't get hung there over the weekend)

As a general rule if you apply online say sunday, show up at the consulae monday morning with the QR code confirmation to pay in cash for the visa you should have the approval by wenesday

They're pretty fast 3-5 business days on regular (Non-O, Non-B, Non-ED, Tourist) visas

Don't forget to upload your visa/entry stamp to Lao to show you're actually in the country

is this the same process in Vientiane? Just asking because I was reading somewhere that if I go to that location I have to apply in person.

BOTH Consulates in Lao (Vientiane/Savannakhet) require you apply online, download and PRINT the QR code then show up at the consulate between 9-11 M-F to pay in cash (thai bank only) for the visa
