TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for your first Thai marriage visa extension, you must submit your application within the last 30 days of your current visa. Once all documents are submitted, the processing time can vary significantly by immigration office, typically ranging from 3 weeks to 2 months. It is important to note that an extension does not grant you a new entry status since you are already in Thailand. If you plan to leave the country during your visa extension, you will need to purchase a re-entry permit to maintain your visa status while away.

Thank you . Will they let me keep my passport as I will need to travel out and I assume the re entry stamp is at the airport before I leave

You'll receive an "under consideration" stamp. How long that lasts will vary by immigration office. It can be anywhere from 3 weeks up to 2 months.

An extension is not any entry. You're already in Thailand. You don't need to enter Thailand.

If you want to leave during your extension, then you need to purchase a re-entry permit to keep your extension alive when you go.
