Hey! I've applied for a Canadian SETV (Ottawa) on the eVisa Thai embassy website. It's been around 30 days since and it's still in its first "processing, pending document check" phase. I've read online it can take up to 1 month but most people receive it within 2-3 weeks. My flight is January 23, should I be worried? Is there anyone that can tell me how long it took to get their SETV/METV?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The processing time for a Canadian Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) applied through the Thai embassy in Ottawa is reported to take about 25 business days, which can stretch to a minimum of 6 weeks during busy periods. Individual experiences vary, with some applicants having received their visas in as little as 3 days through the Vancouver consulate. Given the user's upcoming flight on January 23, they should be cautious due to the current processing delays.

I applied for my evisa (Ottawa) in November. It took 24 business days then I got an email with a request for my documents. I submitted the documents same day as requested and it took another 5 business days before I received an email saying my visa was ready. You can always email them if you are concerned but they will likely reply that it is taking 25 business days if your documents are in order.

Sorry. Typo. They emailed me with a request for "more" documents

Visa starts from the day you receive it or the day you fly into the country?

when you apply online they tell you which office you must apply at depending on which province you live in. You don't have a choice. But yes, you are correct. BC is very fast. Ottawa is very slow.

Ottawa is very slow - they state it takes 25 business days.....so minimum 6 weeks. Vancouver is quick (several days)

Single Entry Tourist Visa, it's a 60-day tourist visa which you can extend 30 more days. So instead of the regular tourist visa where the maximum is 60 days, you can get 90 days max.

This is the busiest time of the year, and it takes longer than regular.

We applied a few weeks ago through Vancouver. It took 3 days

There's 2 Thai consulates in Canada. The one you chose in the evisa application is the one that will process your application. Based on recent reports one of them is very slow, 5-6 weeks. The other is faster. I don't recall which is which though.

without question, it is the Ottawa consulate which is the slower..and word of advice, should you leave on an already booked flight with intent to use visa exempt, do NOT make mention of this in back and forth "request for documents" or your long awaited Multientry will, of course be rejected on the spot..there is no way of telling when their requests for more documentation (sometimes objective , easier to produce stuff, and sometimes totally subjective questions about your reasons for applying for multi entry) ..in any case "processing" can take a long time and one's history in obtaining one (either pre COVID , no e-system or the current e system) is of no help and frustrating repetitions of documents already submitted happens often. There is always a possibility of success in application after you arrive in under visa exempt ..but NOT if you notify them you have arrived, the application will be immediately terminated.

Again, I have no "whys" as to the hold ups there..and really not my place to speculate..but admonish all to perhaps try Vancouver consulate .

Remember as always to have a flight booked for departure within the 30 day allowance period to satisfy airline out of Canada..they are not interested in seeing any applications pending..

In addition, at the airport..have a copy of the previously purchased "going" ticket and supply that and a departure ticket within the 30 day allowance a visa exempt would give you..no need, and perhaps would only complicate things ..to include a return flight already booked for months down the road.

the OP applied for single entry visa, not multi. But in any case, it's not true that the visa will be denied if he says he will enter visa exempt. I was in the exact same situation last year and they actually encouraged me to enter visa exempt. They also agreed to delay processing of my visa so I could use it for my next planned trip. Also the OP cannot "try the Vancouver consulate", you are required to direct your application based on your residence location.

first point..was denied this year for MULTI for that very reason

second ..good to know..I did not recall auto referral re location in Canada. Had always used Ottawa.
