How does a long tourist visa history affect DTV approval chances?

Could having a very long 1.5 year (no overstays) tourist visa/visa exempt/border run history actually work in someone's favour when applying for DTV. Given you would have already proven your ability to provide for yourself and that you respect the law by never overstaying?

And how strongly does an application moving to "pending approval" indicate success?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion explores whether having a long history of compliant tourist visas (1.5 years without overstaying) aids in the approval process for a DTV visa in Thailand. Opinions vary on the significance of this history, with some asserting that past entry records are not a critical factor in the application's evaluation. Key considerations include the applicant's financial documentation and proof of legal residency. Comments suggest that while a strong application is crucial, some prior visa status might enhance the likelihood of an interview, but generally, the approval criteria appear uniform regardless of previous visa histories.

Only what really works to your advantage is when you apply from your own country.

If you are filing soft power I would bet you're chance of getting an interview when you come in is higher with a large amount of visa exempt/ extensions. Just my opinion.

It's the strength of your application according to your entry scheme. History has zero to do with it.

I think part of Thailands goal was to capture visa fees from those who were here anyway on various exemptions. Only ones who mske money on exemptions are the border bounce companies and their "associstes". Now, Thai gov"t gets the DTV visa fee. They didn't get that before from all the exempt folks. Good for them and good for us.

I doubt those doing the assessment take any of that into account. They have approved those that have overstayed and been blacklisted. They have approved those where it would be obvious they have worked while not allowed. They are not looking for any of this. They have a set of criteria and look at it and are approved or not on that basis.

Overstayers are approved for DTVS so that tells you the approval relevance of having a non overstaying history.

It really depends they might be more critical on your source of funds. They may ask to prove where your 500k thb comes from and what you have been doing for work. They will want to make sure you haven't been working illegally in thailand.

There are many applicants where is is clear they were working on tourist or Ed visas if one was to scratch the surface. The MFA are not at all interested in this with regard to the DTV. Not in their wheelhouse.

really because I was questioned over it and had to show my business and deposits in usa when I applied. Even under soft power because I had been in thailand for 1.5 years and only left for short time. I applied through Taiwan while it was walk in applications and had to stay an extra day to interview immigration and explain where my money comes from.

They don't care about your past entries when evaluating your application. They are happy to see you go legal now.
