Details: I have held a yearly Thai Retirement Visa for over 6 years now. I extend it yearly. About 2 years ago the Patumthani Immigration Office added addition requirements after you have been issued the retirement visa which is you must go back to them after 3 months and show that you still have Baht 800K in your bank account and then 3 months after that you must show that you have at least Baht 400K in your bank. If you do not do this, your visa is automatically canceled. I have been doing this now for the last 2 years and it is getting to be a bit difficult to ensure I have Baht 800K in my bank after the 3 months of receiving my Retirement Visa. I am thinking about changing my visa to a Thai Marriage Visa since my Thai wife have been married for over 32 years. I heard that the requirement for this visa is a minimum of Baht 400K in the bank.
Question: My question is how easy would it be for me to switch over to a Marriage Visa from a Retirement Visa and are there any downsides of doing this?
TLDR : Answer Summary
Switching from a Thai Retirement Visa to a Marriage Visa is generally considered easy. The process involves changing the visa's purpose during renewal, with specific requirements including proof of marriage and financial documentation. While some find the transition straightforward, others note the potential downsides, such as increased paperwork, the need for relationship verification, and possible home visits by immigration officers. Overall, the process may require more documentation compared to the renewal of a retirement visa.
