How do I apply for an e-visa for myself and my Thai wife without creating separate accounts?

Hello, I just learned today that the quarantine requirement for fully vaccinated folks was reduced to 7 days. As my Thai wife and I would like to get back to our house in Thailand, I started to look at the requirements for an e-visa on the Washington consulate website. What confuses me is how we go about getting a visa for each of us. My wife has used her US passport for past trips to Thailand. With the e-visa tool do I need to create two separate accounts and use two email addresses or is there a way to do it with 1 account? As this e-visa system is fairly new, I am not sure if the tool accommodates families getting a visa and coe.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the process of obtaining an e-visa for himself and his Thai wife, as they wish to return to Thailand amidst new quarantine rules for fully vaccinated travelers. They seek clarification on whether one account can be used for two visa applications or if separate accounts are necessary, noting confusion regarding the e-visa system's suitability for families.

I would like to get back to my house in Phuket in January without having to stay in a SHA hotel any length of time. I think all restrictions should be gone by then. With coming to Thailand fully vaccinated, arriving with a negative PCR-NAAT TEST under 72 hours old and taking an antigen test on arrival that is negative, we should have no restrictions and should be able to travel everywhere. Especially to be able to stay in our own houses.

We shall see what the future brings.

no doubt about it... You will both need to stay in a SHA Plus hotel seven nights then can stay in your home afterwards.

You think that based on what? Your hopes and dreams? The increasing covid cases in phuket? Thailands desire to bring foriegners back who already own houses here vs tourists who will stay in hotels?

Garrett Greenwald Maybe!

Easy to remember rule: if you have a passport for the country you are trying to enter, use it! ;-)

it's always the smart move, sometimes legally required as in case of usa.

Do as Garrett has suggested. She can change passports whilst in the air, not on the ground. Make it easy on yourself.

If your wife is Thai, why would she use a US passport to enter Thailand?

Billy I've never actually been in any of the middle east countries, just transit through the airports a lot. Abu Dabi is the only middle easy country with US C&I stationed there. There are a couple countries in South America and Cuba where they are also stationed. It's actually pretty nice because when you land back in the US, you go into the domestic terminal since you've already cleared Customs and immigration.

Billy Yeah in all my travels I had US immigration stamp my passport once in Abu dabi. I assume because the immigration is out of country that's why they stamp it there.

And will you have to do a mandatory SHA 7 night stay?

@Ga**
Entry requirements are the same for everyone.

Garrett, my question is will the mandatory stay at a SHA hotel be taken off by then. I realize that the entry requirements will be the same for everyone but I haven’t read anywhere about a required SHA stay. I don’t see that listed anywhere.

Gary Roth. By when? As of October 1st it is seven days at SHA. It is to be looked at again on November 1st, but at this stage what happens then is anyone's guess

a long time ago, we used her US passport because she would have a stamp in her passport showing that she left here(US) and if she used her Thai passport to enter Thailand, then she would also have to leave Thailand using her Thai passport. Then, when she got back to the states, she would have to use her US passport to get in. Her US passport would then show her leaving the US but not arriving anywhere. She would have to use the US passport to get back in the US as she would need to show she has a right to be here. I tried to get clarity back then but was unable so we just continued to just use US passport. Does this make sense?

@Da***
No. There's 0 reason for her to use her US passport to enter Thailand. The US doesn't stamp US passports leaving the US, and almost never stamps them entering. You don't have to "show that you went somewhere."

Use her US passport to leave the US and her Thai passport to enter Thailand.

Thank you, for clearing that up. I assume that I would only need the visa for myself. I will have to look at the Coe requirements as I assume both of us have to get that. I got so confused about the visa stuff that I haven’t learned about the Coe requirement.

@David *********
you will need a CoE for EACH of you.

Yes I know that. I hope it’s not as difficult as the e-visa. I am struggling with uploading the documents as my iPhone photos are difficult importing into my computer

@Da***
Visa exempt entry's are allowed, just depends how long you are going to stay in Thailand.

Yes, both of you need the COE. Here's the website, it's really pretty simple. You need to upload the documents it asks for, your hotel booking, insurance, flights, and covid test prepayment. They'll email you the COE.

I usually advocate doing the COE yourself, but if you need someone to help you process it for you I can recommend a couple companies. Take a look at the COE first though.
