TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about topping up their AIS prepaid SIM card for more data as they are nearing their data limit. The community provides various suggestions including loading money through the AIS app, opting for a new plan after topping up, and the importance of waiting until the current package expires to avoid activating expensive short-term promotions. Several users emphasize calling AIS customer service for assistance and locating nearby AIS stores or alternatives like 7-Eleven for help.

Lazada and Shopee have the best prepaid plans for any internet provider in Thailand. Order the simcard online and then go to the store to activate it.

you don't even have to go to the store. At least with True you don't.

Great to hear. So it seems the activation process is different between the internet providers. I have been with dtac on 1 year prepaid plans and they require to go to their shop with passport and simcard to activate. Takes a couple minutes.

You really gotta work hard to use 40 GB. You will not need more.

Do somebody know a sim just to go in the shop and load up money. Can recomend ne somebody something?

@Julia *********
you'll get promotional offers, x GB for y days for z THB, etc. There are some very attractive offers out sometimes. Use those when your package runs out.

You can load money on your SIM in malls, but also in the app if you have a Thai bank account.

oh yes. I thing they dripped me really much down at airport. I wasnt using much and used also wifi. 1,5 weeks later. Just 5,50GB left..

No, you can not - or more precisely should not - just load/top up money. You probably got several SMS with promotion offers, read them carefully.

If you top up before the 30 days period is over, you activate silly packages that cost a fortune. And your internet is gone again a day or two later. What I mean is: "10GB super speed 3 days, only 85THB"

What I mean is: if you top up now, you activate a package like this.

You have to wait till the 30 days period is over.

Because of this BS, I have two SIMs and top them up alternating.

I use one of those promotions continuously. 10 GB for 7 days for 30 baht. Sounds too good to be true, but is not.

There's another promotion coming by every now and then, same data same days but 105 baht if I'm correct, and that is also cheap. But I'm getting that for 30 baht, every week.

@Bart *************
That might depend on provider, which is it?

went from one promotion to another. I did 4 top ups in a row to build up some validity (you get a month per top up, independent of the amount). After the first I got a "top up more and get free data promotion" that I didn't even notice until it kicked in after the third top up. Had a week to until flying away for two months and had a week of data, couldn't be better. Coming back I got another week of free data, 1 GB but that's enough if you have WiFi at home. They just gave it for nothing. Towards the end of the week they had this 30 baht for one week promotion, that I'm on ever since then. And whenever I'm out of the country I pay nothing.

Yes and yes. You can top up with credit card in the app and pick a new plan,

Currently i pay 97 baht per week for unlimited internet (not full speed, but good enough for SM and YouTube)

My first plan was a 6 month Net Marathon package. 800 baht for 6 months. 100gb/month (not full speed)

For the Net Marathon you have to go to a local AIS shop though.

Firstly: call them. Always the best option!!

Loading $ in the app doesn’t add anything to your phone. You need to buy a package within the app!

For the future: Do not buy limited packages!!!!

They always have unlimited packages with reduced speed. We pay about 500 a month for the daughter’s package which is unlimited with 4(?)Mbps. Not sure about the speed (maybe 2), but it’s enough to watch Netflix.

thank you! Wich one u have? 😊

I have post paid because I use the plan for my Apple Watch too.

But I have a cheap 40 GB because I have WiFi in home and in almost all cafe, malls etc.

I don’t know how to use more than 20 a month, even with holidays when the hotel has poor wifi and I use the hotspot for the kids.

Edit: I have a plan that doesn’t exist anymore (i believe). It’s called flexi and I can switch between 2,4,8Mbps and full speed. After the first year of fearing the run out of data, I switched to max and never switched back.

Drop by AIS store. They should able to help you out.
Steve *******
Topping up money doesn't automatically give you data.

You have to buy a package in the app.

So select a package you want, top up that amount (+7 VAT) and then buy the package.

Just go into a. AIS store

Change to ais unlimited data Package bet more cheaper and efficient

That’s why you should never ever buy in a airport.

Buy at the final destination, then you can get help if something is wrong.
Jo **********
@Henrik ****
correct 👍
Colin *********
@Henrik ****
final destination is perhaps back at the Airport. Not everyone visiting Thailand goes to Phuket, or Pattaya, or Bangkok and stays there for the full length of their holiday (assuming they're on holiday). They might be travelling to a few areas of Thailand and may run into the same problem of finding English speaking Thais đŸ€·đŸŒ
Steve *******
@Henrik ****
It's an AIS simcard. There same wherever you buy it, just a bit more expensive at the airport. You can get help anywhere!
Henrik *****
When you buy it close to where you are staying, you can easily go back to that shop, and get help with problems like the OP has.

So you get it cheaper, AND can get help, when buying at the destination instead of the airport, what’s not to like about that.
Gareth ********
@Henrik ****
I’m guessing the fact they’ve nearly used all their data would indicate they are maybe at their destination. Unless they have burned nearly 40gb before leaving the airport.

They can just go to any ais shop near where they are. Yes outside of airport a bit cheaper to start with.
Henrik *****
Adress that to the OP who have the problem.

Not to me, I know what I would do, as I have described.
Gareth ********
@Henrik ****
yeah but what you are saying is hindsight and not much use in helping the op who asked a genuine question.

Everyone is different. What if they arrived at the airport then were headed straight to an overnight train or something and didn’t have time to go to looking for another shop but wanted data for their trip?

Saying you should never ever buy at the airport doesn’t fit everyone’s situation. Just try and be nice and help the op 😉
Henrik *****
I give my advice based on my experiences, you may have other experiences, but no need to construct imaginary storys.
Erica ********
Top-up $ and select a new internet package on the app. The pre-paid number can be used for many years as long as you top-up and buy a new package whenever it expires.

You can call 1148 AIS Call Center (free of charge if you call by the phone that use AIS SIM card. And then choose English option, they can help you to top up the GB.
