Help with bank account conundrum please

Hi everyone, had a 5yr Ox visa that expired. Now back in Oz but wanting to go back on normal O visa. BKK bank account is frozen but exists. I plan to go in a few months to kick application off and need to check with Sukhumvit branch, I guess, that the account can reopen and accept the 800k deposit. Any advice re what I can do regarding reopening the account, what the current go is regarding proof of address. I have to change phone number too- or should I not bother and start from scratch with another bank? Thanks in advance

The individual is seeking advice on reopening a frozen Bangkok Bank account after returning to Australia and wanting a Non-O visa to return to Thailand. Suggestions include contacting the bank directly for account specifics, applying for a Non-O visa from Australia before travel, and considering opening a new account with Kasikorn Bank instead, which is perceived to be more straightforward. Don't bother, Bangkok Bank is too difficult to rely on for visa funds. Use Kasikorn bank for your visa funds, then free up Bangkok Bank account for daily spending usage.

You can't ask random people on social media what the requirements of a particular bank are for opening an account. You need to talk to that bank. people are very down on Bangkok Bank but the reality is they are still the only ones who directly accept overseas transfer note them on the statement in a manner that at least Chiang Mai immigration accepts. when I had a combination of Bangkok Bank, K-Bank, and Siam commercial bank statements all indicating that I had deposited $65,000 baht per month last year The only ones that immigration was interested in looking at were the Bangkok Bank statements. everybody else was in a format that was unacceptable and rejected by immigration.

In Australia apply for the 90 day Non O online. Takes 5 minutes, & costs $120

It does take 5 weeks to get back though. Very simple process.

Then you can unblock your accounts legally & quickly when you arrive.

I hope this helps

My Bangkok Bank account never got frozen since I use it even when in the USA without a current Thai visa. I was stuck in the USA for 20 months getting my hip replacement done, but I have to pay my lease quarterly, help the family occasionally, etc, so I used my account. When I went to immigration to change from a visa exempt arrival to an O based on retirement, the first thing the voluteer asked was is your account frozen and then wanted me to sign into my banking app and show him it wasn't. Not sure what would happen if it was. When I went to Bangkok Bank to get a bank statement and letter for the O on my tourist exempt, they locked ฿800,000 in my account and it's still locked since the end of January. But funds over the ฿800,000 are still avaiable as is my other account with them. When I went in to get new ATM cards, I had my O visa and no problem. I can't spend any of the ฿800,000 anyway until three months after I got my one year extension, so I don't have an issue with it being locked. Sorry I could not directly answer your question, but this is what I experienced. Good luck!

I’ve just been to the bank this morning.

My account was not used for 5 years.

They asked me for my old passport and new one which was issued during the 5 years.

If you have the same passport then that should make life easier.

I have been asked to return in two days and the accounts will be up and running again.

Both my THB and USD accounts.

This was with krungsri bank

Get the Non-O visa before you travel to Thailand, once inside get a residence certificate from immigration and make sure your thai SIM is registered against your passport then go and visit your bank to see about getting your account unfrozen
