When you arrive to Thailand and open your bank account, how do you transfer the 800k to the bank?
Do you use Wise or direct bank transfer?
My bank will only allow a 25k usd daily transfer, which is short of the total amount needed with the exchange rate.
So would it be wise to do 1 big lump sum transfer via wise or 2 small 16k usd transfer direct from the bank?
TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
When transferring 800,000 THB to your bank account in Thailand for a Non-O visa, you have several options. Direct bank transfers are feasible, but be cautious of your bank's limits. Some users recommend using Wise for its favorable exchange rates and low fees, suggesting multiple smaller transfers if needed. It’s important to keep transaction receipts for immigration purposes. If you're concerned about proving the source of the funds, this is typically required only when applying for the visa within Thailand. However, it’s advisable to declare larger amounts at customs when entering Thailand.

At 32baht to the US dollar, $25k is exactly 800,000b. I'm going to bring a couple thousand US with me to open my account then wire transfer the needed balance.
Kasikorn have no incoming limit but for large transfers they recomend notification first to avoid a hold being put on. Comonwealth Bank in Australia requires a request to raise the daily transfer limit for online banking.
Well up to you, I have two accounts one for daily stuff one for immigration pretty easy, go to an ATM a couple of times US $ currently = 31.57 then bank the money
Make two deposits from your bank into Wise . Then one transaction to your Thai Bank account. Wise you can Send 1,500,000 baht to Siam . 2,000,000 baht Bangkok bank. Just sent 1,000,000 baht to Siam bank last week.
Wire transfer is normally different, and it's highly likely you are mistaken. Anyone purchasing a house or even a car your bank wouldn't do ??? You maybe want to speak to someone at the bank and ask specifically about wire transfer. Any house purchase, nobody is going to be ok with 20 or 30 separate transfers.
I used Remitly to transfer US$10k three times, then lesser amounts to pay routine bills and keep me over the 800k BHT threshold. Don't forget your FATCA/FinCen reporting responsibilities.
Frank Hicinbothem be very careful with Remitly I was going to transfer equivalent to 200,000bht because the exchange rate was less Remitly should have cost £70 more than wise, yes the charges where less with Remitly but the exchange rate was not as good as wise, even taking into account the higher charges wise worked out cheaper
A long time ago, a wise man once told me kiss; keep it simple s-------.
when you are giving immigration documents and they are looking at hundreds of documents a day, you do not want to make things complex coming from different sources broken up in pieces if you need to have 65,000 baht a month then you put in the 65,000 baht. But your initial year is ฿800,000 from a source that is out of Thailand. I've used wise and have not been able to beat it. There are other currency transferring converting companies on the Internet but wise has not failed me yet.
I Would not recommend bringing to much cash as this may raise issues with Customs and questions re- money laundering etc. ( happened to me). Keep all receipts and transaction details.
John Storey just declare what you bring to Thai Customs, they will give you a receipt that is your proof you brought the money in from abroad. The amount of US Dollars imported into Thailand is unlimited, just needs to be declared if more than 15,000 USD. However the limit that you can take OUT of the USA undeclared to US Customs is 10,000 USD
Andreas Mueller, if that's the case, can we bring Thb 800K worth of foreign cash each and declare at customs? Just so we can immediately open an account with a Thai bank? Thank you!
Barath Faust yes you can . . .here are the official rules for cash into and out of Thailand. . . but BEWARE, you also need to follow the rules of your country regarding the EXPORT of cash
John Storey if you entered on a Non-Imm-O retirement visa, you do not need to prove where the money came from on the day you apply for the 1-year extension of stay. You only need to show the foreign source if you apply for the Non-Imm-O visa inside Thailand
Ah Cheong Ah Cheong you do not need to declare where the money came from when you apply for the 1-year extension of the stay permit out of a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa (because you already proved your financials when you applied for the visa)
Ah Cheong Ah Cheong Did you get the 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa outside of Thailand or inside of Thailand? When applying for it inside of Thailand, you need to prove that the money came from abroad. When you have entered on a Non-Imm-O that you got issued outside of Thailand, you do NOT have to show the money came from abroad
With the O non immigrant Spouse visa, I bought in $20,000AUD, exchanged it at the green Superrich and deposited the 400,000B required when I opened the account. Since then, I usually use Wise for transfer.
