TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster, a recent retiree, seeks advice on obtaining a long-term retirement visa to stay in Pattaya, Thailand. Community members suggest applying online for the Non-Immigrant Type O-A retirement visa, which requires meeting specific criteria. They also note the necessity of COVID-19 insurance, a fit to fly certificate, a quarantine booking, and a negative COVID test for entry into Thailand. Recommendations include contacting the Thai Embassy or visiting an immigration office for detailed guidance.

If you are over 50, you can get a retirement visa. If not, you will have to buy an elite visa.

Keep in mind you are going to need to have 100K US dollars of covid insurance, you will have to have a fit to fly certificate from a doctor, you will have to book a 14 day quarantine at an approved government facility and you will have to have a negative covid test as well as use a specific airline to come back to thailand.

At this time most people are spending about 100K thai baht (at least) for the visa and the entry process.

The days of you winging your way here on a 30 day visa exempt entry are over :O

and I would have to fly from Korea to America, Rent-A-Car, stay in a hotel there while I get a background check and wait for the COE. Probably more than US$10,000.

you apply online for both the Non-Immigrant Type O-A retirement visa by meeting the requirements for it and for permission to enter the country by meeting those requirements too :O

Even though this is the new york thai consulate website link it is the main online link for all 4 consulates that can issue visas for people to get into the country

read the FAQ's and then click the apply online
