I have round-trip flights from Chiang Mai to Udon set up to border bounce at Nong Khai tomorrow, but Tod Daniels has written that it seems the Laos authorities will not be offering visas-on-arrival starting tomorrow. I read another post that said the Laos eVisa takes 48 hours. Is there a way for me to get a Laos visa before tomorrow? I'm trying to call the Laos embassy in Bangkok but the line is busy.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about obtaining a Laos visa as they have planned a round-trip flight and border bounce but are facing the potential unavailability of visas-on-arrival starting tomorrow. They are seeking ways to secure a visa prior to their travel, considering options such as visiting the Laos embassy.

There COULD be some confusion about the terminology. IN one article I read it said "visa on arrivals" BUT in a main article I read it said "visa exempt entries" <- which means countries that get IN to Lao for free wouldn't be able to do that anymore.

AT THIS TIME <- meaning right now, you can show up at any open border with lao and BUY a visa to get in at the border.

Why would you go all the way to Udon to bounce at Nong Khai from Chiang Mai when you have a Lao border IN Chiang Rai province that you can bounce out and back at?

Thank you for your response. I started doing border bounces at Nong Khai because it involves less time on the road; I get car sick and long bus/van rides also seem dangerous. And I bought the plane tickets a few weeks ago. But in this situation your suggestion makes sense.

You should have just went to the Chiang Khong / Huay Xai border today and bounced out and in.

I know the Lao consulate in Bangkok sells the single entry visas same day in the mornings. I don't know if you are in Bangkok or can get to the Lao consulate in time though.

I applied for the Laos Evisa this morning and I was sent an approval around 5pm. Tomorrow AM wake up and do the visa online. Hope and pray you get it back same day. I also had 5 friends do the same who needed them. We all got them back today around 4-5pm
