TLDR : Answer Summary
To open a Thai bank account, having a Thai wife can help in obtaining a visa, specifically if you're looking for a one-year extension or a marriage visa (NON-O). It's noted that you may not necessarily need a one-year visa or a Thai spouse to open an account, as some banks like Bangkok Bank are willing to assist without those requirements. Documents proving your relationship and a Certificate of Residence from Immigration may be needed to facilitate the process.

With a Thai Wife, documents to prove it, plus a Certificate of Residence from Immigration - you can go to a Thai Bank and get an account
