Non-ED expires April 25. Will I be able to convert to COVID extension, etc. the week of expiry (with cancellation letter etc.)? Or do I need to go to immigration (Samui for me) prior to March 30 to cover my a$$?

Trying to understand how this March 30 COVID extension deadline affects visas expiring after March 30.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about converting their Non-ED visa, which expires on April 25, to a COVID extension before the application deadline of March 30. Commenters advise that any COVID extension application must be made by March 30 and suggest obtaining a cancellation letter from the school if switching from an Ed Visa. They clarify that applying for the COVID extension may commence on the application date and that having a TM 30 form filed for the current address is important. Finally, they note that working under the COVID extension is not permitted.

Be aware...

You need to understand that if you are going to apply for COVID EXTENSION as it will start on the day you apply and will lose all the time you have left on your current Ed visa stamp

And

As you are still on the original 90-day stamp from the Visa I don't think you need a cancellation letter to switch over to a covid extension.

But prepare to have one if asked.

You need to make any COVID extension application not later than March 30.

You will need a letter from your school to cancel your Ed Visa.

Or pay the fees to extend your Ed Visa.

VS looking to get cheaper COVID extension...which may only last one more time

Suggest you watch the news for updates last week of this month.

Hmmmm....another question ??

Do you have a TM 30 filed for your current address?

Is your local immigration office the same one you obtained the Ed Visa stamp ?

Is this Ed Visa NEW...in its first 90 days or is it on an extension of stay ?

One more point...

You cannot work under the COVID extension.

Good Luck.

- I understand how to cancel my ED visa

- I have a current TM30

- ED visa is from my local immigration office

- ED visa in first 90 days

- I can't work in any event because I don't have a work permit

I'm curious, where do you live, and where was the extension of stay stamp acquired?

Live and study in Koh Phangan. ED visa obtained via Samui immigration.

ED visa from Jan 26 to April 25.

Are you on the initial 90days from Non-ED visa or extension (90days incremental)?

My opinion: go on the correct visa for your needs. If you're a student, stay a student. If you are not a student, find another visa.

I wouldn't use COVID-19 extension of stays as a long term strategy to stay in Thailand.

then go to your local immigration office by March 30.

However...IF the COVID EXTENSIONS are once again extended too...

Up to you what you decide
