Hi all, I have an Non-ED visa until 28th March. I want to switch to Covid 60 d extension. I understand that I need to cancel the non-ED first. If I cancel the ED at the end of February, do I then have until 28th March to switch to covid 60dayd? The reason I ask is that my ED visa is from Chiang Mai, but I want the 60d covid to be done in BKK from there on

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on switching from a Non-ED visa to a Covid 60-day extension after canceling the Non-ED visa. Comments indicate that once the Non-ED visa is canceled, the user can only apply for the Covid extension from the cancellation date, and they will need documentation from their school to verify the end of their studies. Additionally, it's advised to handle the cancellation and application for the Covid extension at the respective immigration offices.

okay
@Ji***
you got good answers,

Get the documentation from your school saying you stop studying on xxx date

Go to the immigration office that issued your extension cancel it (most offices let you do this about a week before the date on the letter from the school)

the immigration office will cancel the extension, and give you a new stamp letting you stay until the date on the letter

THEN (before that new stamp expires)

Go to the immigration office you want to apply for a covid extension at and apply for it. (You might need to prove you live in the area where you're applying by having a TM30 receipt etc)

Do you have a visa (“full page sticker”) or an extension of stay (“the stamp “)?

Yes, Ellie, that’s exactly my question.

, in that case, you can check with CM immigration office how many days earlier you can cancel your extension.. usually (or so far what I read here) other immigration offices that accept cancel application earlier let you apply for cancellation several days in advance, or at only a few offices give you up to a couple of weeks. Never heard that someone could apply for cancellation one month earlier.

Thank you Benjamin. I will therefore apply for a covid extension in CM on same day. I was needed clarity that my visa stops on the day of cancellation and not up until the end date in the extension

I had the full page sticker, then I got the extension after 3 months

it *MAY* be possible to cancel your extension of stay based on studying in CM and then fly back to Bangkok, but I don’t think it is possible logistically. You will have to (all in the same day):

1. Fly to CM

2. Get the documents from your school saying you are no longer studying

3. Cancel your current extension of stay based on studying

4. Fly back to Bangkok

5. Go to Bangkok immigration and file for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

The first flight from Bangkok to CM is at 6:10am, and you’ll get there by 7:30. There is a flight from CM to BKK that leaves at 10:30am, and you’ll arrive at BKK at 11:35.

You’ll be cutting it really close in CM.

Are you sure CM immigration office would not accept the extension cancel application in advance?

I don't remember about CM, but some (many) other immigration offices would accept cancellation of extension a few days in advance...

OP needs letter from the school saying will quit studying on this date..

No...if you cancel your Ed Visa in February...its over.

You need the COVID extension from the date you have cancelled your Ed visa.

You will need documentation from the school that your study has ended.

If you obtained the Ed Visa in Chiang Mai you need to apply for the COVID 60 days extension there.

What address is your TM30 filed with?
Ellie *******
You don't need TM30 registration when you cancel your extension. Just need to go to the immigration office where your extension was issued.

Also, MOST immigration office would let you apply for cancellation several days earlier. Check with CM immigration office about that.

Because I left CM and now live in BKK, so it makes sense to have all my paperwork in bkk

Why would you want to do that? You will be standing in the immigration office in Chiang Mai when you cancel your Ed extension. Why would you want to fly to Bangkok and then schlep all the way out to immigration to do what you could have done when you were already at CM immigration?

My TM30 has a Chiang Mai address. So if I understand correctly this is what I need to:

Get cancellation from school -> cancel ED visa -> get Covid extension on same day -> file a TM30 for BKK -> get another covid extension in BKK?

What if I cancel ED visa in morning then fly out to BKK on same day then get covid extension in afternoon?
