TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your DTV (Tourist Visa) in Bangkok after 180 days, you should visit the MAIN immigration office located at the government complex in Chaengwattana (Building B, Section J for tourist visa extensions). It is important to avoid the immigration office at IT Square Laksi Plaza, as that is only for those seeking a 30-day extension. Some users suggest considering a border run instead, as it might take less time than applying for an extension.

it looks like same requirement when I applied to get the visa. How possible an extension needs same docs as a new one? If I have dtv it means I have already showed these docs and I am approved for the visa

Because that's what is required. The answer is as simple as that. They want to make sure you STILL qualify. It's a 5 year visa.

but if I travel to other countries then I come back they just put a stamp on passport, so what's different?

the difference is you aren't going to the immigration office and applying for an extension. And many people believe they're going to start requiring paperwork when entering Thailand eventually too

To get a bank statements in seconds I don't need luck, all of the banks I know just do bank statements within seconds. For the initial application I also got all documents within an hour, I live in a modern country where all these can be done just online.

I don't need an extension, because I do not live in Thailand, I only tell that getting all documents for extension takes far and far less time than a border run. In the time you need to prepare for a border run, I will have all documents. Maybe difficult to believe for some people that other countries might be more efficient organized. All documents needed for DTV I can receive with a few clicks online.

well most stories are about people getting turned down for extensions and having to do a bounce you’ll spend a lot of time driving to immigration sitting there most of the day and getting rejected so until you have boots on the ground you won’t know

If you extend your residence period, you will automatically become a tax resident.

In Bangkok if you're going to apply for an extension on a DTV you go to the MAIN immigration office at the government complex (Building B) and you want the section that does tourist visa extension (Section J)

You DO NOT want to go to the immigration office at IT Square Laksi Plaza <- that is only where "free stamp" entry people go for their 30 day extension.

You go here

no lol… you will need all documents again but with a new date. fresh financial proof, fresh work / soft power proof. you will also need some residency proof which may vary from office to office. btw money has to be in the bank for 30+ days and you need the bank statements

You will need all the same documents as you would need when applying for a new DTV.

I'm not sure. Scroll down in the group and find others who have gotten an extension. There are lots of posts about it.

Anonymous participant 866 you can't just pick and choose immigration offices. A DTV can only be extended at Chaeng Watthana in Bangkok
