We were just told we couldn't get another Covid extension (Hat Yai). Current extension expires tomorrow. We were just told Borders are open etc. and that was it. Can we request a 7 day extension (I think I've read something about it but correct if I'm wrong). If we leave tomorrow, how long do we have to be out of the country before returning (on visa exemption). Thanks heaps for your advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about being denied a COVID extension for their stay in Hat Yai, which is expiring soon. They are confused about the possibility of a 7-day extension and the implications it would have on their ability to remain in Thailand. Responses indicate that there is no 7-day extension available, and it is suggested that they make a border run to Malaysia to secure another 30 days in Thailand. Questions regarding the specifics of their initial visa type and the reasons for the denied extension were also raised.
Time to close, The immigration office in Had Yai, very close to an open border with Malaysia offers a good service as alternative for a stamp due the fact that you are unable to travel 20km to a border but willing to travel 2000 km to see the mountains in Chang Mai.
There are different views on the service from Immigration and be aware the Extension of Stay based on being unable to travel is an option made for foreigners stuck in Thailand because they can not travel back their home country. It is not a right you have as foreigener to stay in Thailand based on this declining pandamic.
always a crapshoot at different locations. I definitely don't see how Thai immigration benefits by denying the extension that is readily available nationwide.
It is not a commercial company, they offer a service for foreigners. The application is NOT denied but a better option is being adviced by Immigration. Sometimes you have to look in a different way.
There is NO 7 day Extension of Stay. IF the Immigration Officer not approve your application, you will get a stamp in your passport as not approved application and 7 days to leave the country.
AS Had Yai is very close to the border with Malaysia, Sadao checkpoint, which is open, the Officer advised you to make a border run and get 30 days of stay. Less money to spent and less passport space used to get a stay inside Thailand and not have to pack your bags and leave the country within 7 days.
There is no minimum time you have to spend outside Thailand before return, BUT you must meet all the requirements for the new Thailand pass.
