TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to switch from a tourist visa to a Non-B visa in Thailand. Most offices allow this if you have a minimum of 15 to 21 days left on your tourist visa, and your new employer can provide the necessary paperwork. The application process may vary, so visiting the immigration office with your employer to gather the required documents is advisable. The fee for the Non-B visa is typically around 2000 baht.

TOTALLY IS possible to go from a 60 day tourist visa entry to an in country 90 day Non-B visa based on employment IF you have a minimum of 15 days left on your current tourist visa entry stamp AND your employer can meet the requirements to get a 90 day Non-B visa issued from the immigration office.
It costs 2000baht for the 90 day Non-B at the immigration office
It is in many offices. You’ll need a set number of days left on your tourist visa — 21 is the norm I believe (but I’ll let others confirm). You will also need the help of your new employer providing whatever paperwork your office requires. Probably best to visit the office with your new employer first and ask for the handout of what paperwork they require.
Is this something new during Covid? I had to leave country and get Non-Imm B in Singapore when on tourist Visa - come back and go to One Stop shop and get WP and 18 month extension. All pre-covid though
yes. Immigration realise that you can’t realistically leave and go get a non B from outside the country, so are facilitating getting them in country. I doubt it’s easy and I guess it takes a lot of too and fro between employer and immigration to pull it off, but it can and has been done. More so on the teacher side than business I guess.
Glad I do not have that issue. I am going to Chimchurri and 3 of our staff coming with me. I think it is a jolly for them. Stand me in front of two counters while my passport and WP processed. I had issues previously though cancelling Retirement Extension to go and get the Non-B - paid a facilitation fee in the end
