TLDR : Answer Summary
The process to apply for a DTV (medical treatment visa) in Thailand due to permanent disability involves several steps. Firstly, you need to get assessed by a recognized doctor at a Thai hospital, who will provide you with a long-term treatment plan that spans more than six months. This treatment plan is essential for your visa application. As you're over 50, consider if a retirement visa would be a more suitable option since it also has financial requirements but may simplify your residency. Additionally, be mindful of any limitations from your US disability benefits concerning living overseas.
Be careful with living outside of the US (I'm assuming you are American) when on disability. You really need to understand the restrictions on the type of disability you payments you are receiving (like you can't be out of the country more than 30 days in a row) because they could cause you to lose your benefits and have to reapply.
A. Nony Mous thanks...I turn 64 in Feb and if my DTV is approved ...I would convert my disability to regular social security...I seen I could live anywhere other than North Korea/Cuba and get regular social security...thanks
You visit a hospital in Thailand and get assessed by a doctor. The hospital then produces a long term (greater than 6 months) signed off by a recognised doctor and you use that as the basis of your application
