How can expats manage their banking apps and payments in Thailand with a Digital Visa (DTV)?
UPDATE: I went to a FOURTH branch as a Hail Mary even after calling headquarters and them telling me no and this 4th branch let me re-activate my Face ID and gave me access back to my SCB app 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I’ve been a SCB bank account holder for 7 years (worked before getting the DTV). I just bought a new phone and the SCB application asked me to go to the branch to re-set up my application but I was told I can no longer use the app because I’m on DTV. I literally used it yesterday with my face scan to scan to pay before buying a new phone. They said I can use the ATM until my card expires but no more thai QR codes to scan. Has anyone used TrueMoney in replacement to scan QR codes for bills + QR payments?

Megabangna , Central Ladprao branches are friendly and foreigner friendly. I have dtv and they still let me move the app to my new phone.

Call up support, they did it to me and support told me I can and they put a note on my system saying I can have it and they put it on when I went back to the bank

I ended up trying a different 4th branch and they let me re-register my Face ID and access my app again 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think Wise are introducing a scan to pay service but possibly only to those with Thailand registered accounts. It does not interest me so I don't know the details.

My boyfriend used to scan the QR code with TrueMoney at a local store, but some stores can't pay for the QR code in about 1 in 20 stores, and he can still use it to pay for electricity.

It happened the same to me with Bangkok Bank. I have been using True Money since then and works fine.
Note: I can’t do any transfer from the home banking from the computer. But I can top up the True Money wallet from it

I am using my Thai wife's phone number SIM card can I set up true money account with her SIM card and her phone number or do I have to register my own phone number. She is currently in USA and I'm just using her SIM card while I'm in Thailand

BraveOwl3854 The SIM has to be registered in your own name. You will need to provide documentation from the SIM provider proving this.

I’ve had a bank account over 20 years . I have been on all kinds of visas on and off over the years . Marriage visa , visa for having thai national children , etc . Now on DTV and no issues . But I haven’t had to update anything . I keep same number . My bank books are full now and maybe better not go to get new one ?

Anonymous participant 535 Same visa history myself and currently on a DTV. Had to visit Kasikorn a couple of months back to activate mobile banking. It took 5 minutes, without issues.

I just tried , it’s not working. Need to unlock with additional documents that is only available to Thai citizen or foreigners with valid visa. Tourist cannot scan to pay other QR code

True money works for QR but it sucks that even scb now does this silly thing with the app. Scb used to work with the app normally when you change phones unlike other banks, good that you published this so now I know they all caught up to the same bad result

How are you guys signing up to TrueMoney? With your own name or using Thai partners? When I did mine there was no chance to open it as a foreigner. Also, did anyone else get to update their account with Bangkok bank? I changed my address while being on DTV and they gave me a new book (6 year old account though)

The only bad thing is , you have to have someone thai that you can send money to from foreign bank so that they can scan and put money into your account and you can’t withdraw like a atm . You can only spend or transfer money to people
