As a “Tourist” what QR Code payment App works ? I know it’s impossible to open a Thai bank account.
I have used TAGTHAi in the past but was accepted around 60% of the time.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks.
Answer summary
Tourists in Thailand seeking QR code payment apps have various options, despite the challenges of not being able to open a local bank account. Popular apps include TrueMoney and DeepPocket, which facilitate payments through QR codes. Some users mention that using cash is still a reliable method, as QR payments are not universally accepted in all shops. Additional suggestions include checking Wise's capabilities and considering cross-border services if from an ASEAN country. It is important to note that users may still need to fund these apps with cash at kiosks or through friends with Thai accounts.

5000 baht to open bank account with lawyer if that’s worth it to you I don’t know
Chris Blunt this seems to require a Hong Kong bank account with access to Hong Kong's FPS system which is their equivalent of Promptpay. So it is basically a linking of regional instant bank transfer services, not that you can pay from a normal top up of your Octopus account (Octopus is Hong Kong's subway/bus payment card also usable at many shops in Hong Kong, similar to Rabbit card in Bangkok).
Pui Suu If you don't have a local bank account in Hong Kong you can use the Octopus for Tourists app to add money to it. That allows you to add money with a foreign bank card.
Pui Suu yes, for now. You could use it for business payments but not payments to individuals. Then it stopped. Then it came back on for both. Then stopped!
True money wallet if you can "upgrade" from basic to advanced account.
After having the advanced account, you can pay to commercial and private PromptPay Accounts. However, only 30 transactions to private accounts are free of charge.
Other disadvantage is that basically topping up is only possible at True Money Kiosks and 7-Eleven (or other vendors). At the end you need cash to top up. Or having a friend with a Thai account who's sending you money to your wallet.
Dale Trewartha Cash doesn't work for making QR payments, which is what the question was about. Your answer would be excellent if the question were about tax evasion or money laundering.
Marianne Holmen what's the down side of it being registered in Thailand?.(I do know that there is a moratorium until October for new Wise registration)
I have downloaded one and I just saw it also the app name is DeepPocket. Have a look, you can use and pay using qr codes and tap up using any of your cards/credit card/ debit cards.
Lynnette Munoz you missed his point. You answered a question that was not ask.
In response to his question, you might as well have answered “it’s better to drive with your headlights on at night. Booth answer his question equally as well.
it's a solution to not needing qr code. There's nothing on here says people can't say or explain what they do to resolve the issue. Or are you one of those who gets furious that people use cash?
