Can I get a tax ID in Thailand before becoming a tax resident?

Another tax question... I will come to thailand with DTV in late 2026 and I intend to stay over 6 months and become a tax resident in 2027. Is it possible to get a tax ID already for 2027 without waiting for 6 months to pass? If I show I have a rental lease for over 6 months and I remit money to thailand from abroad? (Ideally I would also open a thai bank account and use that to pay rent etc)

its 6 months in any calendar year, so unless you come in before the end of june you wont actually become tax resident until july 2027.

That however doesnt stop you getting a tax number, though some offices will tell you you dont need one. Fact is if you have any one of a number of Thai source passive incomes (not working, so dividends, royalties, commissions, etc etc) those are taxable day 1.

You will probably have to wait longer than that. If you become a Thai tax resident by spending 180 days or more inside Thailand in 2027 you wouldn't be filing taxes until early 2028. No need to file, no need for a TIN. Also it's highly unlikely you will be able to open a Thai bank account on a DTV.
