Does my wife need to be present at the immigration office to obtain our re-entry permits in Thailand?

My wife and I are both USA citizens.

Here for MANY years on retirement visa.

We're going on a trip to Singapore and back next week.

Today or tomorrow I will go to the immigration office to get a re-entry visa for each of us.

One quick question. I think I remember in the past taking care of getting re-entry visas for myself and my wife een if my wife was not present with me at the immigration office. Of course, I have all of her documents.

But, now I am doubting my memory. The worst that could happen is I get there and then I have to call my wife to have her meet me there.

Any of you know if she absolutely has to go to the immigration office with me to take care of this minor issue?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is a U.S. citizen living in Thailand on a retirement visa and plans to travel to Singapore. They inquire if their wife must be present to obtain re-entry permits at the immigration office. Responses indicate that she does need to be present to sign forms and have a photo taken, although options exist to get re-entry permits at the airport. The conversation highlights the importance of confirming current immigration rules, as there are instances of confusion regarding multiple entry permissions linked to visa extensions.

If you're flying. Just do it at the airport. Assuming there's is a reason you don't take her to immigration office...

Doesn't help answer your question but maybe help with your situation.

I always get my re-entry stamp at the airport... Usually I travel to Bali, at 06:00 and its never taken more than 10 minutes.

I don't recall having to show any paperwork except my passport.

The simplest way; go both there and get the stamp. There are agencies that are making this so physical appearance are not mandatory. But as nothing work in Thailand- go there both of you

my retirement has automatic a multiple entry, not know why. Maybe a new rule..... but when I lived here 2015-2019 it also was multiple entry.

So.... who knows, maybe yours too

Fred Wijnands You probably use an agent who has bundled everything together, whether you need it or not, in order to charge you the biggest possible fee

Graham Seal yes indeed, used an agent in The Netherlands... never believe what fxcking idiots they where. And I feel ashamed, because something they didn't know from Immigration, what I needed to pay. it I learned..... just do it yourself. A bit work but then can only blame yourself if something goes wrong.

That is why a know a bit about the visa rules now...past 3 months I was only busy with immigration,.rules, insurances etc etc. 1.month more and I can start a visa business 🤣

Fred Wijnands Not automatic - it depends whether you ticked the single entry or multiple entry box on your extension form

Yes, you paid extra (beyond the cost of your visa) for the multiple entry re-entry permit.

You can get the entry ticket at the Airport. Not necessary to visit your local immi office

Would rather not have to bother with getting to the airport even earlier.

Like to have everything "in order" BEFORE the day of departure.

David Speights you don’t have to go earlier to the airport. The desk for re-entry’s is right where you pass immigration.

OK, just called the immigration office. They said my wife DOES have to be there.

(They will need to take a photo of her at the office.)

Guess that's that. ;-)

as the person who applies needs to sign the TM8 form in blue ink, I guess she needs to be present. By the way - it is called re-entry permit. It is not a visa

Andreas Mueller Unfortunately, it doesn't help that Thai Immigration themselves have and use bad translations, and are not consistent with English language terminology....

as Suvarnabhumi Airport Departures Immigration has had ample opportunities and time to change their signage, but do not

Dca Dca I wait for the day when you are not understood when asking for the menu in a restaurant. It will probably be renamed to "food visa" by then

Why not get your re-entry permits at the airport as you leave?
