Hi

My friend had a single entry tourist visa which he extended for 30 days by doing a overland border hop. Does that count as one of the 2 border hops allowed per calendar year?

Thank you sir

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original post inquires whether a friend's border hop to extend a single entry tourist visa counts as one of the two allowed border hops per calendar year. Comments clarify that if the friend entered on a tourist visa, the border hop does not count towards the limit. However, if the entry was via a visa exemption, it would count as a border crossing. Additionally, the nationality may affect the rules on border crossings.

If he has Russian passport, he entered on visa waiver based on bilateral agreement, he would NOT be applied TWO times limit of entering Thailand on visa exempt scheme by land.

It means technically he is allowed to enter Thailand by land unlimited times.

Your friend DIDN'T extend his single entry tourist visa by border bouncing.

He could have went to the immigration office extended the tourist visa by 30 days for 1900baht

IF he bounced out and back in at a border he got a NEW entry (that had NOTHING to do with his early tourist visa) and YES it did count towards one of the two 30 day visa exempt entries he can get in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31)

Is this your friend from the Netherlands? From another recent post of yours in June 2019?

What is nationality/passport nation of your friend?

If it was on a Tourist Visa...it does NOT count as one of two border crossing entries allowed each calendar year.

But make sure he had a TOURIST VISA PASTED in his passport by a Thai Consulate or Embassy.

From what you said...I do not think he had a Tourist Visa. He would have received 60 days upon arrival. Not 30.

I think he was stamped into Thailand for 30 days on visa exempt arrival...???

And he obtained a 30 days extension of stay at a Thai immigration office
