TLDR : Answer Summary
The Non-OA visa requires travelers to have $100,000 of insurance from specific Thai companies, and this is a mandatory requirement when entering Thailand. The Non-O visa does not have this insurance requirement. Some expats have expressed confusion over visa requirements, including insurance.

I couldn’t agree more. The whole Thai visa issue is unbelievably & unnecessarily complicated, contradictory, & complex. So many variations, surely the whole Thai Visa system could be much simplified so that it could be easier to operate, understand & to control.

The present system creates an eternity of ambiguity, confusion & never ending indecisiveness & argument.

I often have concerns as to how much of the Thai Visa system is confidently understood by the Thai immigration authorities themselves.

So much confusion, so unnecessary.

I believe it’s a tactic used much like US government uses to deter someone from applying. Like stacks of paper and twist and turns.

Kong fu paper work.

But I respect the Thai government a lot because the country has kept out all the trash.

Look at all the EU countries with open border policies. That turned into a shit hole fast .

If you have 24 grand you can get a VIP visa but I’m not going to spend money like that. Rather cut my toe off.

My wife Thai but I have to register the marriage and that’s simple but you have to keep 10 grand usd in bank

So, without a proper & protective Visa system that's enforced, the UK will continue to get the rest of the Worlds Riff Raff at several hundred a day & counting. which in Thailand & most other Countries, this illegality is not permitted to happen. Shame on UK's successive Governments.

However since retiring I would like to spend several months in Thailand so am wondering about the most favorable permitted Visa. Unfortunately the UK Government unlike Thailand, doesn't have the same respect or considerations for our Country & just permits countless numbers of overseas immigrants to illegally enter the Country at will & with ease totally illegally

Hi, Yes you're probably quite right & I totally agree your comments. I have traveled annually to Thailand since 2008 & have just relied on my 30 day tourist exempt Visa, occasionally extending to 60 days by exiting Thailand for a few days to a Country of interest & then returning to obtain a further 30 days.

The Non-OA visa requires $100,000 of insurance from a specific list of Thai insurance companies. It's one of the primary requirements for the visa, and you will have to show this insurance every time you enter Thailand, and you will only be stamped into Thailand for as long as your insurance is valid, if it's less than the visa would allow.

The non-O visa does not have an insurance requirement.
