No you certainly don't have too, in fact it can be difficult to open one on DTV. Additionally there is no rule of DTV that says you can or cannot get a bank account. DTV is a Visa controlled by immigration. Ultimately the banks decide who can and cannot open a bank account. With Kor Ror 22, Residency Certificate, Yellow Book and passport I was able to satisfy the banks to open an account while on DTV.

AI is completely unreliable for Thai expat formalities, because too many people either (a) throw around uninformed rubbish or (b) say things for one situation that don’t apply to another without explicitly saying what the limits are, and AI can’t tell the difference. All you need is proof of residence like you would do back home like a bill. They have QR payment in Thailand without fees. Idk how but they have.
