TLDR : Answer Summary
No, obtaining a Digital Tourist Visa (DTV) does not require you to get a Thai bank account. In fact, many responses indicate that opening a bank account on a DTV can be quite challenging, as it is considered a short-term visa and banks often do not accept it for account opening. There are various opinions shared in the comments with some suggesting alternatives like international accounts, but the general consensus is that you are not obligated to open a Thai bank account with a DTV.

Who makes you ???? You don't have to do anything if you don't want a bank account. If you do go to the bank that you choose but you need specific paperwork. Each bank is different so go enquire in the bank not here. Here 1000 different answers

No you certainly don't have too, in fact it can be difficult to open one on DTV. Additionally there is no rule of DTV that says you can or cannot get a bank account. DTV is a Visa controlled by immigration. Ultimately the banks decide who can and cannot open a bank account. With Kor Ror 22, Residency Certificate, Yellow Book and passport I was able to satisfy the banks to open an account while on DTV.

I will tell you the true. Official you can't do that. But from agencies it's possible. It's depends on you only, can you pay 1000$ up or not for that.

You claim people with DTVs have been told by Thai Immigration that they need a Thai bank account? What were the threatened consequences if they didn’t get one?

No. DTV does not make you eligible for a bank account at all, and they certainly don't demand you get one.

agree to disagree, Gemini sucks at follow up and customizations, in my opinion. Claude seems very similar, but I've only just started using it and I'll have to check out Manus. Thanks

AI is completely unreliable for Thai expat formalities, because too many people either (a) throw around uninformed rubbish or (b) say things for one situation that don’t apply to another without explicitly saying what the limits are, and AI can’t tell the difference. It just forms assumptions (or rather language predictions) based on what the mass of content says. If AI says you can do something and all the humans living there say you can’t, the humans are right.

AI is nothing more than a quick search engine on the internet.

And as anonymous people love to spread lots of BS, AI just generates a decision based on wrong information.

Real life experience still beats AI.

AI isn’t good with nuance and it’s likely drawing from a generalized pool of information regarding opening a Thai bank account in general.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 yeah I figured btw the absolute best option currently is Jupiter a crypto wallet app. They recently added some type of card payments system. All you need is proof of residence like you would do back home like a bill. They have QR payment in Thailand without fees. Idk how but they have.

It’s the opposite as you can’t open an account on a DTV since it’s not considered a long stay visa.
