Quick question with the dtv do you need to have an income ? Why if your quitting work and have plenty money to last you the 5 years . Or is it better to have an income coming in ?

You are asking about the application process (income proof to embassy) Or just general question about living expenses in thailand....if your monthly spending is 50k baht i think u need at least 3mil baht to last that 5yrs ....and if you don't have that it will be better to have a income from overseas

I applied soft power in Vientiane and showed only sufficient bank balance to support me for next 5 years.

I declared that I am taking a break / early retirement. They were fine with it and approved.

If you are applying under one of the soft power options then you can be asked to show how you will support yourself for the 5 year duration of the visa. If you have substantial savings you can show that surely? For workation show work income

managing a wealth portfolio is a full time job, although if your portfolio is less than $2m USD (which I assume is the case if they only have a 5 year runway), the amount of time managing it is minimal.

It's not required but obviously the officers need to make sure you won't work illegally in the country. It's the same everywhere in the world, not just Thailand
