Has anyone applied DTV through Japan? I m in Japan on visit visa and thinking to apply DTV for Thai. Is it possible ?

The original query asks if it's possible to apply for a Thai DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) from Japan while on a visit visa. Multiple comments discuss experiences with various Thai banks and their requirements for proving income for visa applications, particularly regarding bank statements showing international transfers. I live in Rayong. Immigration officers there are EXCELLENT. They are friendly and helpful. I was late doing a 90 day report, I thought I'd done it online but it was rejected because the first 90day report after a new passport or visa extension has to be done in person. I saw the rejected online report too late. I went to immigration, paid the fine, smiled and spoke politely, even joking asking if I could have a discount. Simple rule: This is Thailand, their laws which, if we want to live here, we must adhere too graciously.

Wise transfers are no longer considered foreign transfers. It goes to kasikorn bank then onward to your bank so it's posted as a domestic transaction.

I just opened a kasikorn acct. And hopefully it will work for my next extension.

You might be able to the the 400k and prove 400k income with monthly deposits.

Yes it is frustrating that Immigration do not accept a recently updated bankbook as evidence of bank balances or deposit history. Even though the bank book shows every transaction in and out.

I don't understand 🤔 as long as you have 800K in your bank account the bank will issue the letter and the day of your extension extension you add 100 thb then you update the bankbook and that's it. Or did I misunderstood something ?
Paco *******

A few years ago you only needed to keep the 800k in the account for 2 or 3 months. Then you ould withdraw it but making sure the 800k was back in a couple of months before the renewal. Sorry, I don't remember the exact timings.

What don't you guys understand about Thai banks.

They want you to put the 800K in your bank accpunt and leave it there so they can use it to make money with your money. If you use 65K a month income method they ( the banks) can't use your money to make money.

Gerar Teuben yeh correct most of their customers are Thai but there's 2 thing that have changed recently.

1. When getting a new 12-month Non O retirement extension they lock your ฿800,000 for 4 months. It even disappears from your bank book updates.

And if your changing to the ฿65,000 method for the 2nd and subsequent years they won't issue a letter confirming the previous 12-month deposits now.

Exact same situation happened to me. Jomtien branch said no statement, my branch in South Pattaya said no, the branch in Central mall said no.

I was dumbfounded. Went to South Pattaya branch again, went straight to manager’s office upstairs and without yelling (took a lot!) told her I was not leaving until I got the statement. 45 minutes of arguing with her and tellers downstairs and I got a statement that sufficed for immigration.

Subsequently went to Kasikorn bank and opened another account I am only using for foreign transactions into Thailand.

They froze the money probably as the money was just added just before asking the statement suggesting possible agent involvement.

I did exactly what you suggested for SEP 2025 when Wise made the change. I was concerned and went to Bangkok Bank immediately. They said they would not issue credit advice for that transaction.

I went then to K-bank international desk (fortunately I had an account there as well). Kbank was very helpful and provided a credit advice letter.

I was still concerned it was not simple an clear enough for immigration so I made an additional deposit in SEP 2025 and the rest of the 12 months into my Kbank account.

In the end Immigration did not accept the Wise~>Kbank~>BB docs and handed that paperwork back to me. The kbank direct transaction was accepted instead.
Margarita ************

John Foose I have the same problem and Bangkok Bank provided the Credit Advise. However, it only shows transfers from Kasikorn Bank to my account, not the foreign transfer that Wise so graciously routed through Kasikorn Bank. Wise has really screwed a lot of people inadvertantly.

Did you have a full 12 months of a minimum of 65k baht each and every month showing on your bank statements as coming from overseas? If they do not show as coming from overseas you would need to have obtained a confirmation letter of overseas transfers for every transfer that doesn't show as international from whichever bank the transfers first entered Thailand
Jita****
Jita****
@John *********
the IO I went to (BKK DIV 1) told me the want the pass book, the certied statement and a credit advice letter for all 12 deposits.

Fortunately k-bank will put all 12 on a single letter but it does take time.
John *********
John *********
@John *********
I thought the 12 statements from Wise were clear indication that the money came from my American account. And the deposits are certainly listed on my bank statement.

Immigration insisted the bank needed to sign a specific letter acknowledging the 12 deposit deposits. Seems ridiculous since obviously the deposits were made, and the wise statements prove they came from a foreign bank.
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
John Pollins be careful with the assumption that WISE transfers automatically show as having come from abroad. WISE uses their Thai Kasikorn account for the last step, so your bankbook could well have it listed as an inner-Thailand domestic transfer. When you set up the WISE transfer, make sure to tick the box where you tell them that you want it to be coded as having come from abroad. If you don't do that, some of the transfers will show as domestic

John **********
John **********
@John ********
Wise statements are meaningless from a Thai immigration perspective. If the transfers are not coded as international on your bank statements your only option is to get that confirmation letter for each transfer that doesn't show as international. This usually means you have to go to some other Thai bank as if your transfers arrived directly into your Bangkok bank account they would normally be coded correctly

Paul Franklin this is my experience as well with BB. I also asked for a 13 month statement if possible; May 2025 to May 2026. I was told that is not possible.

A bank statement does not prove you actually earnt it as an income in another country.

Eg. Even if I can prove I transferred minimum 65k every month from my Oz bank to wise then to my Thai account the OZ single pension @ $1130 / fortnight does not meet the 65k per month rule.

Some other OZ income is easy to prove on a monthly basis however interest from some super funds are not.

Am now engaging with a local visa agent in Korat instead of my original in Pattaya.
GreyEle*******
GreyEle*******
Ian Ramsay the essence is that you remit ฿65,000 per month with foreign transaction records. The banks should be able to provide documents to show these transactions.

Sure if you don’t have enough pension to do ฿65,000 a month then you can do the ฿800,000 and complain you don’t get any interest or pay an agent probably the equivalent of what you could earn in interest to work their magic to pass Immi.

If you don’t have ฿800,000 then the agent fee is coming out of your pension.
John *********
John *********
Neil Robert I showed him. I had a copy of the bank statement and he said that was not enough. Immigration said that the bank would need to sign a letter. Not a great way to treat people who are willing to rent a condo for years and spend money every day.

John Pollins Yes Krabi wanted the letter also. They now want 4 pictures of me in different parts of the house and in front under the house numbers but showing the entire front. Then a drawing of the streets to the nearest, main road. I showed them the Google maps which actually has a picture of the house with the route highlighted as a route. Mind you I have a Thai dl with that address and lease for the second year in a row. It feels like times are getting hard & they're looking to take it out on someone/thing. IMHO

The pictures requested are usually for a marriage visa & mine is a retirement Visa.

John Pollins of 240,000 western foreign expats in Thailand , maybe 10%-15% have deposits tied up in the bank. The rest is using agents, or use their income and pension affidavits as financial proof or the 12 months statement. Their participation in Thailand's economy is neglectible. It is rather Thai and Isaan families who are profiting from the foreign husband
John *********

Greg Alexander it’s not just me doing this to. Probably a lot of people have ฿800,000 tied up doing nothing.
