Hello! My family (3 USA and 1 South Korean) and I will be visting Thailand in January and February next year. The USA fam members will do the 30 day visa exempt, plus a 30 day extension from Chiang Mai immigration. We will be staying with my brother and his Thai wife at their home in Chiang Mai for a few weeks in January, and hotels after that. My understanding is that we need to have a TM30 filed for all of us within 24 hours of arrival in Chiang Mai by the person who leases the property. Is this correct or am I reading the situation incorrectly?? Thanks for any and all advice πŸ™. This group is a great resourceπŸ‘πŸ‘.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user asks if they need to file a TM30 for their family (3 Americans and 1 South Korean) upon arriving in Chiang Mai on a 30-day visa exemption, followed by an extension. Comments confirm that TM30 must be filed by the property owner within 24 hours of arrival, although recent clarifications suggest it may not be required for 30-day visa exemptions seeking extensions.

Chiang Mai is NOT requiring TM30's to be filed for people who want to get a 30 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry.

If you plan on staying for 60 days, obtaining a tourist visa is actually cheaper and a bonus of not dealing with the immigration office at all.

The south korean citizen does not need to do anything.

When you say "standard tourist visa" do you actually mean the 30-day visa exempt? Not that it makes any difference when filing a TM30, but it gives anyone making a comment a clearer picture of the situation

yes that is the one, changes made πŸ‘.

Correct, if you stay at your borthers and his Thai wife house, the owner of that property needs to report your arrival within 24 hours at Immigration, can be done in person or on-line or by the app for the smart phone

@Robert ******
Not correct. Not needed ;)

And Chiang Mai Immigration is OPEN EVERY DAY... all 7 days.. Weekends included....for TM30 reporting.
Robert *******
If they are already registered at the on line system, or do in person they can do this report by themselves.

thanks so much! If they lease the property, they need to reach out to the owner? Or is it possible for someone on the lease to file? Thanks as always for the expeditious responses.
