TLDR : Answer Summary
Many UK citizens applying for a Digital Work Visa (DTV) through the London Embassy have reported being asked for tax returns during their applications, especially as freelancers. However, it appears that this requirement may vary, as one applicant successfully applied without submitting tax returns by providing contracts, invoices, and bank statements as proof of income.

It's common but not everyone is asked. I applied there on a remote work basis and wasn't asked. I provided contract, invoices and corresponding highlighted Wise statement showing the income coming in.
