Do the recent restrictions on arrivals from African countries apply to the port of departure (ie flying from somewhere in Africa to Thailand) or to the passport of the traveller? For example, would the holder of an Egyptian passport be able to fly into Thailand from London and do Test & Go? 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The recent travel restrictions regarding arrivals from African countries are based on the port of origin rather than the traveler's passport. If a person holds an Egyptian passport and travels from London, they would be eligible to enter Thailand under the Test & Go scheme, provided they have not been in an African country listed under the restrictions in the past 3 or 4 weeks.
I had understood that text pre-dated the new African restrictions. The equivalent eligibility text for Samui Sandbox, for example, is “travellers from any country” which is obviously no longer correct given the African restrictions. Thoughts?
Yes, the announcement refers to “travellers from [certain countries]”. That’s my question. Is that “from” physical (actually leaving Africa) or related to nationality (you hold a passport from an African country). I’ve reviewed this site and all announcements that I can find and I don’t think it’s clear. I’m grateful for your help, but I still think it’s unclear 🙏
yes its country not nationality. That would be deemed racist if by nationality and totally illogical. They are trying to stop the flow of the variant from where its most prevalent
😆 because the Thai government is well known for never doing anything illogical or racist. No, I agree with you - your interpretation is the most logical. I've reached out to a couple of Thai embassies (as they will be the ones applying the policy) but haven't yet heard back. Thanks again for your thoughts.
