Hello, I have a question. After I submit the application in Ho Chi Minh, does it mean I have to stay there until the application will be approved?

Even I am digital nomad, but I still need to meet some people for my work. And I have already leave Vietnam, does it mean I have to apply all over again 🥺🥺🥺
Answer summary
After submitting a visa application in Vietnam, applicants are required to remain in the country until their application is processed. Leaving Vietnam during this period can lead to application rejection, particularly if there are passport stamps indicating departure. Digital nomads must also be careful, as engaging in work activities in Thailand while holding a DTV visa is prohibited.

A full scan will show that you left Vietnam already

And that will get your application rejected

Seriously you've been in the group for a year and a half, and this requirement from Vietnam is a surprise to you? It's almost blasted from the rooftops that Vietnam will want to see every page of your passport.

Yes, you must remain in a location served by the consulate you applied at until the process completes. As you have already left and thus will have stamps in your passport it's very likely your application will be rejected just for that.

Normally when you apply under Workation you also include a letter stating you are allowed to work remotely from Thailand and that you will have no interaction with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand. The fact you've had to return to Thailand for meetings is also a strong indicator that the DTV is not the correct visa for you. You should probably be looking at a Non-B visa

you should be OK if you don't leave Vietnam and can get back quickly for an interview if required

Yes, this has been discussed many times. You need to stay in Vietnam the entire time. Even returning now might not work, as they are asking for every page of your passport (time stamp) to see if you exited Vietnam.

Your work is obviously so substantial in Thailand you qualified for a Work Permit. Work meetings actually in Thailand are not allowed under the DTV. I know in practice they occur but if it is a regular thing you are leaving yourself open. Why not have online meetings?

Yes, you’ll need to remain in the country, and the listed requirements confirm this. If you’ve already moved to Thailand that will probably be an issue for you. Work meetings are not a valid excuse since as a digital nomad you can have those meetings anywhere. And if your meeting is in Thailand, that’s a very grey area, since you cannot engage in any business or work here, even with foreigners.

I understand, but all my work has no issue about Thailand at all. And I think if I apply again, I may need to stay in Vietnam for more than 3 weeks

Your profile may raise red flags. You’re switching from a Non-B to a DTV for financial reasons and returning to Thailand for meetings during the process. Authorities may see this differently than you do especially with the current crackdown on illegal work. Online meetings are the safer option in your case. I hope you were aware that you must remain in the country where you submitted your application.

If your work has nothing to do with Thailand why the need for meetings there? You are leaving yourself open.

Bussiness meeting in person in Thailand clearly is NOT remote work, but work done in Thailand, how else would you describe it?

For DTV work in Thailand is just prohibited.

while it may be not easy to explain..

The rules are that you MUST stay in Vietnam until the decision is known. Good Luck 🍀

I understand exacly how it works. I was a regional manager based in Singapore for a decade. Thailand and many other countries have not kept up with latest working practices but you have to deal with what is in place. They do turn a blind eye for example of someone coming from Singapore for a few days for meetings or speaking. In reality a short term WP should be in place for certain activities. They are flexible as they know the practicalities. Being based in Thailand is different. If they are just regional meeting can do on any visa. .

Yes. You have to stay in the country you applied the visa untill the visa process is finished. You can try to return and submit what they are asking, but it doesn't mean they will not reject.

Hopefully it is OK but 1) they will see you left by your passport 2) it will be on the system. I suspect they know you left.
