How can I prove I'm not working in Thailand if I'm denied entry on a tourist visa?

So I've been granted a 60 day tourist visa but now at BKK airport they will not let me in as they say I have been here a long time. In fact it is only 1 year and during that time I went back to UK for 2 months, went to Bali for 1 month and now just spent a week in Hanoi.

I guess they think I am working.. WHICH I AM NOT. How do I prove this?

This is an urgent and current airport situation :/

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reports being denied entry into Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa due to suspicions of working there, despite having spent a significant amount of time outside the country. Community members suggest various solutions, including providing proof of funds, hotel bookings, and onward travel. They emphasize remaining calm and persistent in discussions with the immigration officers, as entry is ultimately at their discretion. The user eventually highlights a successful resolution after a prolonged period at the airport, indicating the importance of not giving up and the potential for misunderstanding with immigration authorities.

and on that note I will close this thread.

My point being in all of this 1. I'm not stupid 2. I am always polite and speak a little Thai. 3. I was dressed I believe fine (I am a 40 year old businesswoman) but mostly 4. THEY NEVER ASKED ME FOR MY PROOFS.. just said I had been in Thailand for a long time.. essentially suggesting I was working. They wouldn't even look at my documents.

Tbh.. I was for sure not the only person crying not allowed in..

Does anybody have access or can provide a link of TM11 since we are on this topic?
Erre *****
ok, good to know, personally I never did (because I knew about it once I was in my country :) )but yes, sound like a waste of time
Ron *******
There's a lawyer that often posts on the Darkside forum who works alongside the British Embassy and in IDC. He's under the opinion that appealing a decision is a waste of time. Once they have decided to deny you entry, your not coming in. He states the appeal go's to the senior immigration officer who made the decision to deny entry. They mostly won't revoke there decision.
Erre *****
well, as far I know, to fill and send the TM11 can take around 7 days to be processed, and I think you have to be "under the authorities" until it get solve. I THINK, NOT SURE, GOOD IF SOMEONE TEACHES US IN THIS
Luke ******
@Rufo ******
So like, what's the procedure with this. Can you submit it directly to the IO or how does this work? Will it make them back off in case you actually have the money and they are being abusive trying to use say 12.2 against you?

FWIW: these are the reasons you can be denied entry.

There are no other reasons than these.

#8 is the catchall for all males entering...
Erre *****
@Tod ********
definitely, because I experience myself, showed money, showed whatever they asked me, and nothing, get denied anyways
Tod *********
@Ru**
, that is the one they usually use EVEN if you have the 20K baht in cash to show you can support yourself :/
Erre *****
Yes, they can base on number 2
Masis *******
until now had you stayed by METV, SETV or simple entry stamp?
Tod *********
They only said they'd been here a year and during that time they were in the UK for 2 months, Bali for 1 month and Vietnam for a week. So out of the year they were here just under 9 months.
Michael *********
As said 000โ€™s of times previously, entry to the Kingdom is discretionary, based upon an individual IO, clearly he/she believes you are working in Thailand. If you wish to spend longer here, are under 50 & not working or studying they want you on a METV or Elite Visa. Both require money, which Thailand wants.
Joe ***********
Holder of a METV denied in Krabi a few months ago - same scenario as this poster. Only the I/Os got tough
Tod *********
@Mic****
, you notice I didn't mention the Elite visa too ;)

Like I said, the passport stamping immigration officers when you come into the country have no idea at all what the financial requirements are for different visas.
Michael *********
Having shown certification from ones bank of ยฃ5000 pp 6 months prior to travel generally is a good indicator one isnโ€™t working & has adequate funds. Whilst Iโ€™ve heard plenty of cases of SETV holder being refused entry, Iโ€™ve never heard of anyone holding a METV being refused entry to the Kingdom. Iโ€™ve never been questioned or stopped whilst holding an Elite Visa.
Tod *********
He holds an SETV and holding an METV is no guarantee they'd get into the country either.

The immigration officers at passport control have no idea what the requirements are at thai consulates to issue visas. That's because visas are sold at the thai consulates around the world by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the immigration officers stamping you into the country are Royal Thai Police. Two completely different gov't agencies which probably never talk to one another.
Erre *****
Well guys, it happenned to me a month ago and now I am in my country. It was in Suvarnabumi also, totally same situation. In my personal opinion it is useless to try arguing with them. They probably put a stamp in your passport and write the clause number 2. Next, they will take you to an small room with other people to be awaiting for the airline staff. Dont get in panic, call your embassy just to let them know you are inside there and why. If everything is ok, tomorrow or even today, because is early yet, you will be in a flight to your origin airport. Once there, think about what to do. But important, dont be agressive with them
Jo ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Of course I would never be aggressive.. is rude and futile
Jeremy ********
Interesting
Laurence **********
Go to the other area with immigration if it's open or just go sit somewhere for awhile and try again. Good luck!
Jan **********
You write "you guess" but you need to know! Why? Its much easier to handle a problem if you know! They did this to me one time. They just say -go away from Thailand! I have no problem before and im look like an ordinarie boring person. I did go back next day, no problem!!!!??
Jo ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
How did you go back next day? Where did you go until then?
Amornrat **********
You just hit a bad mooded officer. If you have show them your Bank Statement, obvious the UK one.
Jo ***********

Amornrat **********
in case denied entry it depends on various factors to which place they send you. You are put in the basement, passport with Immigration until they find a solution.
Amornrat **********
Don Muan or Suvarbumi?
Amornrat **********
means , denied entry. That is no good.
Jo ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
They didn't even ask me for anything at first.. I tried to show and they weren't interested
Jo ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I hit a few bad mooded officers it seems..
Tod *********
IF you do get denied, please post an image of the denial of entry stamp because there is NO clause that says you're denied entry because you have been here too long in a period of time. That is a made up rule not a real one.
Robert *******
Like to read the outcome of this.

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear but just because a thai consulate will sell you a visa doesn't mean the people at passport control have to let you into the country on it. :/ Good Luck
Jo ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I understand this but my problem was they weren't giving me a reason or any way I could substantiate myself
Tod *********
You just have to stand firm, keep calm and argue with them that you don't work here.

There is a good chance they'll let you in, but report back and let us know what happens.
Aaron **************
I confirm this does work. A friend of mine recently got sent to the "big boss" at Suvarnabhumi. Had all his papers in order for an ED Visa. IO did not allow him in but the "big boss" asked him a few questions and he was on his way.

Oftentimes if you are denied entry (you're not being deported because you didn't get stamped into the country and you're NOT being banned), you can fly to a near by country and then enter thailand by land.

Most of the people who were denied entry ended up doing that
Erre *****
Yes, the authorities put you the denied stamp, is very differenr than the usual and they write some things in it, like section you broke, airline you came to the kingdom, and sign of the officer
Tim ********
Interesting...๐Ÿค”
Tod *********
do you have the 3 proof ofz?

proof of 20K baht in cash, proof of a hotel booking and proof of onward travel within 60 days?

Usually IF you meet those you can get in. .

@Tod ********
they haven't even asked me here...
Tod *********
@Jo **********
No, you showed proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of a hotel booking at the thai consulate to get a visa,

None of that matters when you stamp into the country and you can be asked to show proof of funds 20K in CASH, proof of onward travel and a hotel booking when you stamp in too.
