TLDR : Answer Summary
If you apply for a 3-month visa to open a bank account and subsequently secure a retirement visa in Thailand, you typically do not need to show a return flight. Once you have a valid oue visa, it is not required to present onward travel upon entry. However, it's crucial to confirm with your airline as some companies may impose their own policies regarding onward tickets.

Nope, if you have a valid visa for thailand there is no requirement to show onward travel when you stamp IN to thailand

CHECK with your air carrier though, some carriers have an onward travel requirement no matter if you have a visa or not to thailand

no flight needed

airline check in staff often aren’t very well informed so if they ask for an onward ticket, point out your retirement visa

Guessing that you are applying for a Non-O based on being over 50 in Australia, so you will not need to have a return flight to enter
