Do I need to inform my Thai bank if I'm moving to a new province?

Thai bank account & moving to a new province

I’ve had a DTV since earlier in the year and managed to open a bank account shortly after (wasn’t easy).

I’m planning to move to a new city and province in the next month.

I’m reluctant to inform my local branch in case it causes issues (e.g. order me to close and reopen a new account at my new local branch or even just re-review and clsoe account given my visa type)

My questions for those of you who have experience of Thai banking;

1. Do I need to inform the branch where I opened the account that I’m moving province?

2. If I don’t inform them are there any drawbacks or consequences to this?

For extra context; I haven’t had need to go into the local branch since opening. I have other multiyear investment products / bonds tied to the account which is win/win to keep open for both myself and the branch. Total volume going though the account is reasonably high and account is well used.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that you do not need to inform your Thai bank about moving to a new province, as it will not affect your account status. However, not informing them may lead to minor drawbacks such as incurring out-of-province ATM fees or not receiving paper statements. Many users suggest that you can continue to use your account without any issues, and if any problems arise, contacting the bank's customer service can resolve them.

1 No. But you probably should.

2. Charges on the ATM but its only ฿10.

3. You won't recieve mail/statements if they still send out paper ones.

I wouldn't mention it. You can use cardless ATM withdrawals through your bank app to avoid the out of province fee.

I was same situation, in that my app stopped working. I didn’t want to visit branch either. I called the bank call centre. No questions asked they just walked me through the process and app working again.

You don't need to inform the bank. Just carry on and you will be fine. If you use an atm you will likely be charged an out of province fee. But QR etc will all work the same with no extra charge.
