Hello everybody i hope you have a good Christmas, I have a question with regards to a Marriage Visa obtained by an agent.

My Marriage Visa expires early next year and it was obtained by a Agent. Once it expires I would like to renew it myself via immigration and show the money in the bank. Do I have to leave the country to do this (because my Visa was through a Agency) or can I go to immigration in my province and just do it ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring about renewing a Marriage Visa that was obtained through an agent. They are unsure if they must leave Thailand to renew the visa themselves or if they can simply go to the immigration office in their province. Community responses suggest that typically one may need to leave the country to renew a visa obtained through an agency, but there is also a possibility that local immigration offices might allow renewal without leaving the country.

Generally you’d need to leave the country and return with a new Non O or enter exempt and get a new Non O in country to “break the agent chain”. However speak with your local immigration office. They may allow.

- i have used an agent once in my 11 years on non o retirement extensions. Decided i wanted to switch back to doing myself with 800k in bank. No questions were asked by jomtien immigration. Not sure if different with marriage visa.

If you used an agent just for the ease of paperwork then quite possibly no issue. If you used an agent because you didn’t have the necessary funds or such then quite possibly would be an issue. That’s why it’s best to check.

can I ask another question please Stuart, if my Visa Expires March 23rd what date would you recommend me to go to my immigration and ask about extending inside the country ?

most offices allow 30 days prior. Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Buri Ram (maybe others) allow 45 days.

OK I was abit worried to speak with them as I wasn't sure if my Agent obtained Visa would be frowned upon but it seems that's the thing to do. Thank You
