Can I renew my retirement visa in Bangkok and change my address to Koh Tao instead of renewing in Samui?

Hi guys, quick question: I am here on the one year "over 50" retirement type of visa. This coming December I have to renew for the first time. I got the visa in BKK; I used a Thai 'visa service lawyer' for the sake of certainty and convenience. However I actually live on Koh Tao so every time I go to Samui for my 3 month check-in I have to show copies of my rental contract, my landlord's ID and his tabien baan. My question: can I renew my visa in BKK and change my address there to Koh Tao so I don't have to show all these docs every time I check-in, or must I renew in Samui, the nearest immigration office? I would like to use the same lawyer that I used when I got my visa to start with, if possible.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the renewal process for their one-year retirement visa in Thailand, specifically if they can renew it in Bangkok and change their address to Koh Tao to avoid presenting documents each time they check-in. The responses suggest that users need to renew at the immigration office corresponding to their place of residence, which is Samui in this case, and they don't necessarily need a lawyer to handle the paperwork.

you certainly don't need a lawyer to push-paper for you to get a year extension of stay based on being over 50 (retirement) you meet the financial requirements, supply the documentation required and you get the year extension.

thanks, that’s the part I wasn’t sure of because I looked at that list the last time I checked in. Proof of income from investments was not on the list in the immigration office on Samui. Only the 800k baht in a Thai bank account. I will get the list in October, my next check in, and ask about it all then.

And you can do exactly the same thing again, just without the lawyer.

Many thanks Tod. The reason I used a lawyer is the simple fact that I didn’t have to show my assets or open a Thai bank account. I merely went to the US embassy in BKK and signed an affidavit which says that my investments earn the minimum required to get the visa. This is why I want to use the same lawyer, if possible. It was very easy and I got the visa and affidavit all in one single day.

you get a yearly extension of stay from the immigration office that serves the area where you live. Which seems like Samui.

Stop by the immigration office and get the hand out that lists the required documentation you need to get your new one year extension from the Samui Immigration office.
