TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Thai driver's license, you generally need two residency certificates. While some users suggested that you can use a copy of the original certificate, others emphasized the need to obtain another certificate from immigration if the original does not specify it is for a driver's license. It's best to check with immigration or your embassy for specific requirements related to your situation.

yeah I’ve got that Malcolm, but my res cert is for buying bikes which I’ve done, res cert doesn’t state “for car and bike licence”

Whatever is most inconvenient, time-consuming, pointless and expensive, that's what Immigration will require. It's why more and more tourists are going to Vietnam whilst Thailand loses out. Do they care? No, it's all about power.
Yes you are correct Mike. luckily I have time, but I’ve destroyed a tree in paperwork lol
If a Thai wanted to immigrate to NZ it would be far more problematic for them so I understand . Relatively easy here in comparison.

As long as you have one original that says it's for drivers license, you can use the original and a copy for the car license and the motorcycle license.
