I'm a bit confused. After reporting to immigration at 90 days, they told me that at 180 days, I would only need to report online, without leaving Thailand.
Has anyone who has already reached 180 days experienced this?
Is it really possible that you don't need to exit after 180 days and only need to report online?
Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is confused about the immigration process in Thailand after their initial 90-day reporting, particularly concerning the next steps at the 180-day mark. Comments clarify that while the second 90-day report can often be completed online, the process for extending a visa (or DTV visa) requires a visit to the immigration office with documentation. Those at the 180-day mark must either extend their visa in person or exit the country and return, which resets their reporting period. Thus, a border run is commonly viewed as a simpler option compared to applying for an extension in-country.
90 day reporting is just that... a report to immigration on where you are and has nothing to do with your visa. It is not an extension nor an approval to stay.
You still need to follow the DTV visa rules in addition to the updates on location (90 day report). You're choices are to leave before 180 days or file for an extension.
For most people, leaving Thailand for a short trip or border bounce is much easier than getting an extension
After you do a border run and return them the 90 day clock restarts

If you do your 90 day report early (can be done 2 weeks early) then it's possible that you will have to do a second 90 day report before your 180 days is up. The second 90 day report is due 90 days after your first 90 day report.

No, they are talking about 90 day reporting requirements, which are not DTV specific. Every time you enter the country, your first 90 day reporting has to be in person. Every other 90 day reporting can then be online (if you exit and renter, process starts over in person). This is your 90 day reporting process, not your DTV visa extension process.

That only applies to the 90 day report, you either have to leave the country at 180 days or have applies for the 1 180 day extension you can get on each entry
Anonymous participant yes a border bounce is the best option. You'll likely have to do your next 90 day report after you return in person again

No need to exit , but you will also have to extend at the office at the 180 day mark well prior truly to get it done on time
The 2nd 90 day report can be done online the extension can not as you will have to show all you showed to be approved to get dtv if you extend IN COUNTRY.

Or can I just to visa run and that's it?

Anonymous participant You can, and then your next 90 day report after you return would be in person again.

So I need to go to the thai immigration with all the paperwork again and pay again to extend?

Anonymous participant yes all you submitted for dtv will be required to extend in country .
That is why most of us just do a border run or fly to another country for a short vacation and come.back.
